Born in Prince George, British Columbia on September 20, 1947, Kerry Ketter was raised in Sinclair Mills and Vancouver.

As with most Canadian kids growing up in the fifties and sixties and even to this day, playing hockey was part of the daily routine, a passion Kerry pursued from dawn until dusk, before and after school on weekends and at every occasion in between.

For Kerry, his dream of making it to the big leagues and his overwhelming devotion to the game paid off and he was drafted to the National Hockey League playing for the Atlanta Flames from 1965 to 1976.

Kerry, like many NHLers, took up golf during the off season and in his last few seasons of hockey he was working as an Assistant in the Edmonton Area for Head Professional Don Buchan at the Glendale G&CC in St. Albert.

Kerry worked at the Glendale from 1973 to 1978, winning the Alberta Assistants’ Championship in 1974. Kerry decided to move back to Vancouver and took a job at the Shawnessy G&CC working as an Associate Professional to the legendary Jack McLaughlin in 1979. This move paid off rather quickly as he was named Head Professional at the Nanaimo GC in 1980, where he stayed for three seasons before moving back to Edmonton to accept the job which helped to define Kerry’s career at The Derrick Golf & Winter Club.

During Kerry’s time at The Derrick, he won the PGA of Alberta’s Senior Championship (1999) as well as the PGA of Alberta Merchandiser of the Year Award (2001). He was well known in the Edmonton Area as being the complete Merchandiser, running the successful Derrick shop for eighteen years before moving over to the upstart Blackhawk Golf Club in 2002. Many of the Members from The Derrick moved over to join Blackhawk when it opened as a result of the support they had for Kerry as well as the service they received.

Kerry remained at Blackhawk for five years before moving back to British Columbia in 2006. He won the PGA of Alberta’s Merchandiser of the Year Award once again in 2005.

A long list of assistant golf professionals have worked as part of Kerry’s team at The Derrick at one time or another during their careers and have gone on to become Head Professionals themselves. This list includes Wade Bearchell, Brian Bygrave, Wayne Bygrave, Trevor Goplin, Darrell McDonald, Craig McArthur, Art New and Bob Paley to name a few.

Kerry Ketter currently resides in Nanaimo, BC with his wife Shirley.
