After an extensive review of the current Awards Program, the PGA of Alberta is launching a new program with a revised nomination and application procedure.  Beginning July 1st until September 1st of each year, PGA of Alberta Members will be able to nominate a deserving Member of their choice in the following categories: Club Professional of the Year, Assistant of the Year, Teacher of the Year, Junior Leader of the Year, Merchandiser of the Year (Private & Public), and Sales Representative of the Year.  Based on Member feedback, changes have been made to the awards procedures, with the end goal still being to find the best possible candidates from all reaches of the province and objectively determine a winner in each category.

Amongst some of the feedback considered during the review process were comments made with respect to subjective selection procedures.  Taking into account that feedback, an APPLICATION FORM has been added to the Awards Program for 2011.  Subcommittees made up of past award winners were formed, with each group tasked with creating the Application Forms for their corresponding award.  Criteria such as Performance and Participation at the Golf Club, Association and Industry Levels, Service to the Community, Professional Association and Golf Industry, Promotion and Development of the Game of Golf, Innovative programs, Inspiration of fellow Golf Professionals, Image and leadership, Philosophies and Techniques are still important elements of the process.  For the Sales Representative of the Year, please consider the following criteria when making your selection: Promptness, Accuracy, Professionalism, Passion for their product, Communication, Willingness to partner and genuinely become involved in your business or an aspect of your operation.

The Awards Committee felt the Application Form will not only help the Association determine the best possible winners, but can also be used as a personal evaluation tool for each Member.  ALL NOMINEES WILL BE ADVERTISED ON THE WEBSITE and each Application Form will be objectively evaluated and an average grade will be given based on the results of ALL markers within the Subcommittee.   As part of each Application Process, the PGA of Alberta will be requesting additional information from either the nominating Member or a direct supervisor of the nominee.  The additional information gathered will be taken into consideration during the evaluation process and final selection of each Award Winner.  The top six finalists in each category will be placed on the website and once again evaluated by the Awards Committee to reveal a winner.

The success of the program depends on the number of Nominations and final Applications received and we hope that all Members will find the time to contribute to the Awards Program.  Thank you for supporting the PGA of Alberta Awards Program and good luck to all Members.

The PGA of Alberta Awards Banquet will be held on October 19, 2011 at the Edmonton Expo Centre (formerly Northlands Agricom).
