Shaw Charity Classic Pre-Qualifier Draw
Twenty players will play for five spots at the Champions Tour Event Qualifier - the last stage before the Shaw Charity Classic being held at Canyon Meadows G&CC. The Pre-Qualifier will begin at 8am on Thursday, August 24th at The Winston GC. Good luck to PGA of Alberta members Gord Courage (Hamptons GC), Andre DiBartolo (Belvedere G&CC), Darryl James (NGA @ Shaganappi), Brian Miller (River Bend G&RA) and Tim Sawatzky. Club Car – TaylorMade adidas PGA of Alberta Championship
The Club Car – TaylorMade adidas PGA of Alberta Championship is set to take place at River Bend G&RA in Red Deer on August 21st & 22nd. River Bend G&RA’s Head Professional, Todd Fiske, is extremely excited to once again host the PGA of Alberta Championship for the fourth time in the past ten years and showcase their course to 98 of Alberta’s finest Professionals. Players will be competing for the Championship title and their share of the $31,800 purse. After winning the Championship in 2015 & 2016, Dustin Risdon (NGA @ McCall Lake) will look to make it a three-peat by winning the two-day stroke play tournament. Wes Heffernan Goes Low at ATB Financial Classic
PGA of Alberta member Wes Heffernan (Golf Canada Centre) has himself a fantastic third round at the Mackenzie Tour ATB Financial Classic shooting a 5-under 66 to put himself one back of the lead at 11-under going into the final round tomorrow (August 13). Scott Allred Has Another Top Finish at National Championship
Congratulations to Executive Professional Scott Allred (Elbow Springs GC) on another top finish at the PGA of Canada Seniors’ Championship hosted at the Burlington G&CC in Ontario. Scott finished at 1-under for the tournament with rounds of 74-68-67. He will now look to defend the PGA of Alberta Senior Championship presented by MKRAK after winning the title two years in a row and four overall. The Senior Championship this year will be hosted at Belvedere G&CC in Sherwood Park on September 6 & 7. Click here for full National Championship results.
Scholarship Deadline is Approaching!
There is still time to complete an application for the PGA of Alberta Junior Scholarships! Two of four $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to children of PGA of Alberta Members (no golf experience needed) and the other two will be awarded to selected Alberta Juniors, 18 years or younger, who meet the specific criteria. Course Record Set on the Way to Victory
The stage was set for round two of the PGA of Alberta PING Club Pro Championship for one Professional to stand above the rest and forever place their name in history. Craig McArthur of Blackhawk GC found his game at the right time to claim this year’s Championship with a dominant 3 stroke victory. Craig finished with a 4-under (66) for the day and 3-under overall (137 total) for the Championship. With the 66, Craig shot the course record at newly renovated Derrick G&WC. Craig will take home $3,000 in prize money and also secures himself a spot on the Club Pro Team which will represent Team Alberta at the National Championship. Kevin Broderson (Lacombe G&CC) had himself a fantastic round scoring 7 birdies for the day and finishing in second place with a two day score of even par (140 total). Rounding out the top three was Jason Stanier (Inglewood G&CC) with a two day score of 3-over par (143 total). Click here for full Championship results.
Cantera Stays Even at PING Club Pro Championship
Players could not have asked for better conditions today for the annual PGA of Alberta Club Professional Championship sponsored by PING Canada. Fifty-four of Alberta’s premier Head and Executive Professionals competed at The Derrick G&WC for the chance to be crowned this year’s Champion. Leading the way for round one was Dallas Cantera (Cardiff G&CC) after shooting a round one score of even par 70. Falling one stroke back in a 3-way tie for second spot is Murray McCourt (The Ranch G&CC), Jason Stanier (Inglewood G&CC) and Craig McArthur (Blackhawk GC). The Championship is still very much up for grabs tomorrow with 18 competitors all sitting within 5 strokes or less of leader Dallas Cantera. Action resumes bright and early tomorrow morning with the first tee time at 8:00am. Top group of McCourt, Stanier and Cantera will tee off at 10:50am. Calgary's Kyle Miller set to make history
PGA of Alberta Member Kyle Miller is set to make history as the first golfer with cerebral palsy to play in PGA Tour-sanctioned event. He will achieve this when he cracks his opening drive Thursday (August 10th) at the Mackenzie Tour-PGA Tour Canada’s ATB Financial Classic at Country Hills GC. A PGA of Canada-certified instructor at GolfTEC Calgary Midnapore, Miller is on the list of sponsor exemptions for the 2017 ATB Financial Classic. MURPHY WINS HIS FIRST
Gage Murphy (Cardiff G&CC) wins his first professional golf tournament by capturing the Golf Supply House Professional Series Event hosted by Speargrass GC. Murphy shot a blistering round of 5-under 67 to narrowly beat runner up Albert Pistorius (Pinebrook G&CC) by 1. Dillon Batsel (Connaught GC) finished third with a 3-under 69.
