Kevin Thistle Named New PGA of Canada CEO
Following an extensive search of accomplished business and marketing leaders, the PGA of Canada has selected one of its own to lead the association to a new level of sustainable growth and success. “Considering the large number of highly accomplished business leaders who entered this competition, I am excited to announce that our Board of Directors has selected Kevin Thistle to lead the PGA of Canada into an exciting new era of success,” said Steve Wood, President of the Board of Directors of the PGA of Canada. Kevin Thistle is the former President of Golf Operations for the Windmill Group in Calgary and has held leadership positions at some of Canada’s most recognized golf clubs including Angus Glen. Tee Talks Live - professional development conferences
Tee Talks Live - a series of professional development conferences available exclusively to PGA of Canada members. One of the first Tee Talks Live conferences, which are part of the PGA of Canada’s overall professional development platform, will take place in Calgary (Westin Calgary Hotel) on Oct. 31 - Nov. 1. Tee Talks Live is designed to support members in all areas of the industry, from teaching and coaching - to management - to retail - to marketing, and more. APPLY FOR A BURSARY TODAY
The PGA of Alberta along with O’Neill is pleased to present four bursaries of $750 this year to deserving Candidates For Membership (CFM) and Assistants who meet or exceed the bursary criteria as outlined. These bursaries are awarded annually at the Awards Banquet during the Buying Show in October. All CFM's and Assistants are eligible and encouraged to apply. A minimum of two of the bursaries will be reserved for seasonal CFM's (working 9 months or less for their employer). Deadline to submit application is Friday, September 29th at 4pm. Alberta Pro’s have Strong Performance at Assistants’ Championship
The province of Alberta was represented well at the annual PGA Assistants’ Championship of Canada at the Richmond CC as five Members finished inside the top 12. Top performer from Alberta was Dillon Batsel (Connaught GC) after coming in 4th at 11-under over the three rounds. Right behind Batsel and finishing T- 5th was Mike Belbin (Royal Mayfair GC) at 10-under. Other outstanding performances were from Dustin Risdon (NGA @ McCall Lake) coming in T-8th at 7-under, Craig Gibson (Sirocco GC) placing T-10th at 6-under and Scott Stiles (Inglewood G&CC) finishing alone in 12th at 5-under. GLENDALE G&CC CAPTURES THE PRO-ASSISTANT
Congratulations to the Glendale G&CC consisting of Greg McGarry and Kylie Barros for capturing the 2017 Pro-Assistant title at Innisfail GC sponsored by Callaway Golf Canada. Team Glendale G&CC narrowly edged out team Blackhawk GC consisting of Kevin Chow and Craig McArthur by a 1 shot margin. Rounding out the top 4 are team Lacombe G&CC and Country Hills GC both posting great rounds of 6-under par. Click here for all the final results.
Pro-Assistant: Round 2 Cancelled
Round 2 (September 21st) of the Pro-Assistant is CANCELLED due to the weather at Innisfail GC and the course being closed. Breakfast buffet will still be available at the club at 8:30am for any members that need to pick up their clubs at the course. Please notify your partner of this in case they did not see it.
TEAM GLENDALE G&CC ENDS R1 IN THE LEAD
The players fought through some difficult playing conditions on day 1 at the Pro-Assistant hosted by Innisfail GC. Temperatures hit a low of 4 degrees and rain was persistent all day. The team that fought through these tough conditions and finished Round 1 in the lead was team Glendale G&CC, which consisted of Greg McGarry and Kylie Barros. They posted an impressive 8-under par through the first 27 holes. Close behind them is team Blackhawk GC posting a score of 7-under par. Despite the inclement weather the rest of the field remains in contention going into round 2 which should make for an exciting finish. Three Alberta Pro’s Sit Top 5 at Assistants’ Championship
Dillon Batsel (Connaught GC), Mike Belbin (Royal Mayfair GC) and Scott Stiles (Inglewood G&CC) all sit within the top five after round one of the PGA Assistants’ Championship of Canada in Richmond, BC. Team Alberta currently sits in second in the Inter-Zone competition which will have to make up significant strokes today to challenge the Quebec team. Congratulations to Adam Bruce (Glendale G&CC), Craig Gibson (Sirocco GC), Wes Heffernan (Golf Canada Centre) and David MacComb (Blackhawk GC) who will be representing Team Alberta at the 2017 PGA Assistants’ Championship of Canada at Richmond CC in Richmond, British Columbia on September 18-20.
