PGA of Alberta Digital Magazine – Issue #9

Club Car – TaylorMade adidas PGA of Alberta Championship
The draw is now posted for the 34th annual PGA of Alberta Championship sponsored by Club Car – TaylorMade adidas. This year’s Championship takes place up north at the Edmonton Petroleum G&CC on August 22nd & 23rd. Ninety-four of Alberta’s top Professionals will be competing to take home a piece of the $34,500 purse and reserve a spot on the Alberta Assistants’ and Club Pro teams. PLAYOFF AT CARDIFF
Adam Bruce (Glendale G&CC) and local professionals Dallas Cantera (Cardiff G&CC) and Cody Hancock (Cardiff G&CC) all shot 1-under 71’s but needed 1 extra hole to decide the Golf Supply House Professional Series Event hosted by Cardiff G&CC. Adam Bruce was eventually crowned the champion. Club Pro Champion Blair Oko (Blair Oko Golf Academy), Spencer Vandermey (Lewis Estates GC) and Nicholas Vandermey all finished 1 behind with even par 72’s. Click here for all the results.
ALLRED COMES FROM BEHIND
A strong charge on Day 2 by Scott Allred (Elbow Springs GC) to capture the 2016 Senior Championship presented by MKRAK and hosted by Inglewood G&CC. Allred shot a 4-under 67 to win by 2 shots over Day 1 leader Darryl James (NGA@Shaganappi) and Lyndon King (Collicutt Siding GC). Kevin Snell had a strong 2 days and won the Super Senior Division while Derek Gibson took home the Diamond Division. Click here for all the results.
Ladies’ Champion Kylie Barros

JAMES LEADS AFTER DAY 1
Darryl James (NGA @ Shaganappi) has taken control of the Senior Championship presented by MKRAK and hosted by Inglewood G&CC. James shot a 5-under 66 to take a 7 shot lead heading into Day 2. Kevin Day (Billy D’s Golf Center) and Club Pro Champion Blair Oko (Blair Oko Golf Academy) will try and chase down James tomorrow in the final group. Click for all results.
Shaw Charity Classic Qualifiers
The PGA of Alberta will again be hosting two qualifiers for the 2016 Shaw Charity Classic. The Pre-Qualifier which is open to Amateurs and Professionals alike, aged 50 years or older, will be taking place at the Calgary Elks Lodge & GC on August 25th. Those who qualify for the Event Qualifier will head to The Hamptons GC on August 30th. The Shaw Charity Classic will be taking place at Canyon Meadows G&CC from August 31st to September 4th. BARROS WINS CHAMPIONSHIP
Kylie Barros (Glendale G&CC) did what she needed to do in capturing the 2016 Dexim Ladies Championship hosted by Red Deer G&CC. Kylie won in decisive fashion winning by 6 shots over her nearest competitor. Diane Strang (Belvedere G&CC) and Laura Witvoet (Wolf Creek GR) finished second and third respectively. Senior Championship hosted at Inglewood G&CC
The draw is posted for the Senior Championship presented by MKRAK. This year’s Championship will be hosted by Inglewood G&CC in Calgary on Monday, August 15th and Tuesday, August 16th. Defending Champion Scott Allred (Elbow Springs GC) will be looking to win his fourth title against thirty-six other Professionals aged 50 years and over. Tee times begin at 12:30pm on Aug. 15th and at 7:30am on Aug. 16th. Click here to see the current field and draw.
Golf Supply House Professional Series hosted by Cardiff G&CC
The eighth event of the Golf Supply House Professional Series will head north to Cardiff G&CC on Wednesday, August 17th. 35 Professionals are set to contend for a slice of the $4,800 purse. The first group of competitors will tee off at 8:00am. Click here for the full field and draw.
