FINALE SET FOR TEAM MATCH PLAY CHAMPIONSHIP
After a season long set of matches, the PGA of Alberta Team Match Play Championship now has its finalists. Representing the South will be Tyler LeBouthillier (Lynx Ridge GC) and Scott Smith (Bearspaw CC) who will take on the North representatives of Dallas Cantera (Cardiff G&CC) and Jeremy Lavallee (Royal Mayfair GC) in what should be an exciting match to conclude the Championship. There is no shortage of talent as three of the four competitors sit within the top 15 on the PGA of Alberta Order of Merit. The two teams will square off at Red Deer G&CC on Thursday, September 14th to determine who will take home this year’s title and $4,200 grand prize. WHITECOTTON WINS 2017 TOUR CHAMPIONSHIP
Knocking at the door all season long has been Keith Whitecotton (The Quarry) with some very consistent play and several top 5 finishes. Whitecotton capped off the season with a playoff win at the PGA of Alberta Tour Championship for his first victory of the season. Whitecotton had a dramatic birdie putt on 17 and a solid par on 18 to tie both Dustin Risdon (National Golf Academy @ McCall Lake) & Mike Belbin (Royal Mayfair GC) which forced the players to head back to 18 for extra holes. Whitecotton maintained his consistent play and ended with an impressive birdie to seal the victory when Belbin and Risdon both pared out. All three players finished the tournament with a total of 2-under par 138. Click here for final results.
Batsel Leads the Way at Sunice Tour Championship
Royal Mayfair GC presented a championship caliber course in pristine condition for the players on day one of the Sunice Tour Championship. Leading the charge was Dillon Batsel (Connaught GC) who ended the round as the clubhouse leader by posting 5 birdies and 10 pars through the first 18 holes to finish at 3-under 67. David MacComb (Blackhawk GC) and Keith Whitecotton (The Quarry) both had superb rounds finishing one back of the lead at 2-under 68. Eight other players all sit within 4 strokes back of leader Batsel. Round two on Tuesday, September 12th will kick off with tee times starting at 10:40am. ALLRED WINS THE SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP FOR THE THIRD STRAIGHT YEAR
Scott Allred (Elbow Springs GC) wins the 2017 PGA of Alberta Senior Championship with round one and two scores of 74-68, for a two-day total 142. Allred shot a spectacular 3-under today to come from behind to take the championship. This is his third straight Senior Championship title and isn’t showing any signs of slowing down. Lyndon King (Collicutt Siding GC) finished alone in second with a two day total of 147. Not far behind Allred and King was Cameron Code (Edson GC) who finished in third place by posting a two day total of 148. Click here for the final results.
Sunice Tour Championship Hosted at Royal Mayfair GC
The draw is now posted for the PGA of Alberta Tour Championship, sponsored by Sunice. After hosting the Tour Championship is 2015, Royal Mayfair will again play host to fifty of Alberta’s most competitive Professionals this year on September 11th & 12th. The top 10 money leaders from this years’ Players’ Tour events; the top 10 money leaders from this years’ Professional Series events; and the top 30 overall individual money leaders were all invited to play in this two day 36-hole competition. Defending Champion Dustin Risdon (National Golf Academy @ McCall Lake) will lead the field as he will look to defend his title and win his first Championship this year. Good friends take part in northern tournaments
Craig Gibson, who grew up in Brooks and now plays out of Calgary’s Sirocco GC, eagled the first playoff hole at a Players' Tour event at Glendale G&CC to edge out Royal Mayfair’s Mike Belbin after both players shot 4-under 68's. Then, Dillon Batsel of Medicine Hat’s Connaught GC won the two-day Professional Series at Blackhawk GC with rounds of 70-68. “Perfect,” said Gibson, Candidate For Membership at Sirocco GC. “We played junior golf together and competed in the Alberta Amateurs and the Canadian Amateur together. MACDONALD IN THE LEAD AFTER ROUND 1
We had some beautiful weather today at Belvedere G&CC for Round 1 of the 2017 PGA of Alberta Senior Championship, sponsored by MKRAK Management. The leader after round 1 is Bob MacDonald (Douglasdale GC) who posted a blistering even-par 71. In a three-way tie for second place is Dean Walker (PGA of Alberta Member), Lyndon King (Collicutt Siding GC) & Alan Carter (Edmonton CC) all posting rounds of 2-over 73. The rest of the competition is close behind with 7 more players posting a score of 75 or better. Round 2 should show some exciting play with such a tight leaderboard. Senior Championship hosted at Belvedere G&CC
The draw is posted for the 2017 PGA of Alberta Senior Championship sponsored by MKRAK Inc. This year’s Championship will be held at Belvedere G&CC on Wednesday, September 6 and Thursday, September 7. Last year’s Champion Scott Allred of Elbow Springs GC will look to defend his title against thirty other top Alberta Professionals. Round 1 & 2 tee times begin at 11am. PLAYOFF TO DECIDE THE PRO-PRO BEST BALL
It was perfect weather conditions for the 36 teams today at The Ranch G&CC for the 2017 PGA of Alberta Pro-Pro Best Ball, sponsored by G&G Golf Company and Allstate Insurance. Eric Locke (Priddis Greens G&CC) and Samuel Kirkness (Priddis Greens G&CC) shot an 8-under par 63 and edged out Joseph Busetto (Riverside GC) & Gary Hartford (Riverside GC) in the first playoff hole to clinch the victory.
