Zak Griffiths and Jennifer Ha Win the PGA of Alberta Junior Masters at Wolf Creek
August 13, 2009 - Ponoka, Alberta
The Kids love it.
The Wolf Creek Golf Resort in Ponoka opened a new 18 hole golf course this year (adding nine holes to the South nine) and The Links at Wolf Creek did not let players down.
The players didn't let the course down either.
The PGA of Alberta hosted its Junior Masters tournament on the new layout, the first competitive event the course has seen, and a two-day score of even par ended up in a playoff.
Following rounds of 70 and 72, Zak Griffiths from the River Bend GC and Ryan Werre (Riverview) remained tied at the top. Griffiths won on the first playoff hole.
'Thanks to the PGA for putting on this event for us' stated Griffiths accepting the winner's trophy. 'The competition is great, and having the golf professionals who came to help out was really nice. I am looking forward to next year.'
In the Girls Division, Jennifer Ha from the Glencoe G&CC in Calgary shot an impressive one under par 70, to come from one shot back and claim the overall title.
Ha's most impressive moment however, may have come after her final putt rolled in for victory. An hour or so after the prize presentation had been completed, Ha went out of her way to seek out host professional Ryan Vold and the PGA Professionals for supporting the event. 'Thanks so much for organizing this', she stated, 'it was so nice to be a part of it.'
Ha's comments were echoed throughout the day by the entire field of junior golfers who demonstrated the utmost in professionalism and respect during their two-day tournament at Wolf Creek.
