Calmer conditions greeted 50 of Alberta's best juniors in the second and final round of the 2010 PGA of Alberta Sundog Junior Masters today at Wolf Creek Golf Resort. After a first round where occasional rain and high winds wreaked havoc on players' scorecards, sunny skies and a light breeze allowed for much better scoring on Day 2.

On the Boys' side, first-round leader Dillon Batsel of Connaught GC in Medicine Hat equaled his first-day score of 2-over 73 on the difficult Links Course to take home a four-shot victory over Cole Chelle of The Derrick G&WC, Riley Fleming of Olds Central Highlands GC, and Austin Cruickshank of Country Hills GC. Batsel distanced himself from the field with solid, steady play, avoiding any of the bigger numbers that plagued a lot of the field during both rounds of the event.

On top of claiming the overall Boys title, Batsel also claimed the 18 & under division of the event by that four shot margin over Chelle. Fleming and Cruickshank went to a one-hole playoff for the 16 & Under division title, with Fleming continuing his fine form from his second-round 69 with a par on the difficult 18th hole. Tyler Saunders of the Glendale G&CC won the 14 & Under Boys title finishing five shots ahead of his nearest pursuer, Matt Williams of Pinebrook G&CC.

In the Girls' Division, Sydney MacDonald of the Earl Grey GC in Calgary claimed a two-shot victory over first-round Girls leader Becky Martin of the Medicine Hat G&CC after an impressive second round of 1-over 72. Martin impressed as well with a second-day score of 75, which included a stretch of 4 birdies in a row from the 7th to the 10th hole, but struggled a bit over the finishing 8 holes.

MacDonald and Martin also claimed the top two spots in the Girls 16 & Under division, the most hotly contested division on both sides of the event with 4 of the 5 girls participating finishing within 4 shots of each other. Jennifer MacKinnon of the Willow Park G&CC took home a victory in the 18 & Under category, finishing a single shot ahead of Janelle Samoluk of Priddis Greens G&CC. In the division for girls aged 14 & Under, Sabrine Garrison of Country Hills GC shot a fine second-round 79 to distance herself from Bria Jansen of River Spirit GC, who finished three shots back.

The second round was highlighted by a hole-in-one from Christie Lin of Country Hills GC on the par-3 17th. The ace was the second of her career.
