At the PGA of Alberta Annual General Meeting held March 5th, Cory Collins (The Derrick G&WC), Joel Douglas (Cottonwood G&CC), Jae Maegaard (Paradise Canyon GR) and Pat Wilmot (Bearspaw CC) were all elected to the Assistants’ Board of Directors. Craig Gibson (Sirocco GC) was re-elected.

At the PGA of Alberta Annual General Meeting held March 5th, Dave Henzie (Nanton GC), Jeremy Tanner (Highlands GC), and Sean Thompson (Cottonwood G&CC) all were elected to the Board of Directors. Shawn Lavoie (The Winston GC) was re-elected.

Cameron McCormick to present at the Spring Seminar
Cameron McCormick will be presenting for the PGA of Alberta Spring Seminar on Tuesday, March 6th from 1 - 3PM. The topic he will be presenting is: The Skill Code – The hidden elements to improve performance (unpacking the true difference makers and knowledge nuggets that all players need to play well). McCormick’s client list covers the gamut from beginner to elite players. He is most well-known for coaching 3-time Major Champion, Jordan Spieth since the age of 12; and 2011 US Women’s Open Champion & 2017 ANA Inspiration Champion So Yeon Ryu. His clients, past and present, include over 20 combined PGA, Champions, Web.com and LPGA Tour players & 4 of the last 8 USGA Junior Amateur champions. Round 2 (September 21st) of the Pro-Assistant is CANCELLED due to the weather at Innisfail GC and the course being closed. Breakfast buffet will still be available at the club at 8:30am for any members that need to pick up their clubs at the course. Please notify your partner of this in case they did not see it.
New Component to be Introduced at the 2017 Buying Show - Register Now
The PGA of Alberta is very excited to announce a brand new component to the 2017 Buying Show. Canada's premier food service supplier, Gordon Food Service (GFS), will introduce the food aspect of the Golf Industry at this year’s Buying Show.
Buying Show attendees will have the opportunity to learn about the distinctive products and services offered by GFS’ family of private label brands to develop the facilities’ Food Service Department. TIGHT FINISH AT MATCH PLAY FINAL
The cool and damp conditions didn’t stop Tyler LeBouthillier (Lynx Ridge GC) and Scott Smith (Bearspaw CC) from capturing the 2017 Team Match Play Championship hosted by Red Deer G&CC. The back and forth match saw Tyler and Scott jump out to a 3up lead after 12 holes but then Dallas Cantera (Cardiff G&CC) and his partner Jeremy Lavallee (Royal Mayfair GC) made a charge to take the match all the way to 18. Fortunately for Smith and LeBouthillier they managed to hold on for a 1up victory.

The draw is now available for the Playing Ability Test at the Belvedere G&CC on September 6th & 7th.
Tee times begin at 1:00pm on both Wednesday, September 6th and Thursday, September 7th.
BATSEL HELD ON DOWN THE STRETCH
Dillon Batsel (Connaught GC) held on down the stretch to win the Golf Supply House Professional Series Event hosted by Blackhawk GC. Batsel shot a two day total 4-under 138 to win by four shots over Albert Pistorius (Pinebrook G&CC). Pistorius made a charge on day two shooting a 6-under 65. David MacComb (Blackhawk GC) shot 2-under on day two to finish third at 144. Click here for all the results.
Three players pass their Playing Ability Test at Alberta Springs GR
Congratulations to Keaton Allred (River Ridge GC), Michael Pike (Fort McMurray GC) and Crystal Shapka (Highwood G&CC) who all passed their Playing Ability Test today at the Alberta Springs GR.
BATSEL LEADS AFTER DAY 1
Dillon Batsel (Connaught GC) holds the lead at the inaugural 2 Day Professional Series Event sponsored by Golf Supply House and hosted by Blackhawk GC. Batsel shot a blistering 1-under 70 in the tough windy conditions. Tyler Komick (Ranch G&CC) sits alone in second at even par. PLAYOFF IN EDMONTON
Craig Gibson (Sirocco GC) continued with his great season with a 4-under 68 but needed one extra hole to capture the last Players' Tour event of the season hosted by Glendale G&CC and sponsored by Jancor Agencies. Mike Belbin (Royal Mayfair GC) found his name back at the top of the leader board finishing second. Scott Stiles (Inglewood G&CC) and David MacComb (Blackhawk GC) tied for third with 3-under 69’s. Scholarship Deadline is Approaching!
There is still time to complete an application for the PGA of Alberta Junior Scholarships! Two of four $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to children of PGA of Alberta Members (no golf experience needed) and the other two will be awarded to selected Alberta Juniors, 18 years or younger, who meet the specific criteria. MURPHY WINS HIS FIRST
Gage Murphy (Cardiff G&CC) wins his first professional golf tournament by capturing the Golf Supply House Professional Series Event hosted by Speargrass GC. Murphy shot a blistering round of 5-under 67 to narrowly beat runner up Albert Pistorius (Pinebrook G&CC) by 1. Dillon Batsel (Connaught GC) finished third with a 3-under 69. Robert Doucette in Memoriam (1972-2017)
After a difficult battle with a brain tumor, Robert Doucette passed away this morning, August 4, 2017 at the age of 45. He is survived by his wife Leslie.
As a member of the PGA of Canada for over 20 years, Rob became known for how much he gave back to the game. Twelve years ago Rob made the move from the PGA of Manitoba to take his position as Head Professional at the Hinton GC and was a valued member of the PGA of Alberta since then. Those who knew Rob will continue to remember his passion for the game and will miss him greatly. Information on the service for Rob will be posted as soon as it is confirmed.
Corbin Adams (Jagare Ridge GC) made it two wins in a row. After a double bogie on the first hole, Corbin decided to go 9-under on the next 17 to finish at 7-under 65. Gage Murphy (Cardiff G&CC) also played well shooting a 4-under 68 to finish second at the Golf Supply House Professional Series Event hosted by Edmonton Garrison Memorial G&CC. APPLY FOR A BURSARY TODAY
The PGA of Alberta is pleased to present four bursaries of $750 each to deserving Candidates for Membership and Assistants who meet or exceed the bursary criteria as outlined. These bursaries are awarded annually at the Awards Banquet at the Buying Show. All CFM's and Assistants are eligible and encouraged to apply. A minimum of two of the bursaries will be reserved for seasonal CFM's (working 9 months or less for their employer). Please click here for the application form. The draw is now posted for the Golf Supply House Professional Series' fifth event, hosted by Speargrass GC. 46 players will compete for a total purse of $5,900 on Tuesday, July 11th. Crossover will begin at 8:30am. Click here to see the draw.
BRODERSON WINS AT HOME
