Arizona Teaching Summit PD Series 2018

The PGA of Alberta’s Education Committee is proud to present the second annual winter “Teaching Summit” hosted in the Arizona area. This 3-day educational event will give a select group of PGA of Alberta members (16 participant’s max.) a chance to observe interactive lessons with two of the most sought-after instructors in North America – Gabriel Hjertstedt and Martin Chuck. During the 8-hours of instruction each day, participants will take a 60-minute lesson to work on their own game as well as develop their coaching skills by observing the other participants take their lessons; always with the ability to ask questions in real time to both student and teacher. The combined cost of taking a single lesson with each instructor would normally cost in excess of $800 CAD but PGA of Alberta members will have access to16 hours of instruction at a fraction of that cost. Full details of the PGA of Alberta “Arizona Teaching Summit” and biographies of the both instructors can be found below.

Immediately following this one of a kind golf experience is the PGA of Canada Head Professional Championship at Wigwam Golf Club from December 3-6. We encourage all attendees to extend your trip and support our local Head Professionals competing in the tournament.

Biography: Gabriel Hjertstedt

In 1997, he made history when he became the first Swedish player to win a PGA TOUR event at the BC Open in Endicott, New York. Two years later, he again made history by becoming the first two-time Swedish PGA TOUR winner by winning the Touchstone Energy Tuscon Open in 1999.

In 2009, after a storied 10-year career on the PGA TOUR, Hjertstedt began the next phase in his career as he became a world-class golf instructor, traveling around the United States and the world coaching PGA TOUR professionals such as Kevin Kisner, Kevin Chappell, Graham DeLaet, Colt Knost and Freddie Jacobson, along with consulting other top tour players. He has also worked with top LPGA TOUR players such as Daniella Kang, Anna Nordqvist and Lydia Ko. He has also made a successful career out of teaching and coaching amateurs of all ages and skill levels.

Biography: Martin Chuck

Top-100 Coach, Martin Chuck developed his love and talent for the game of golf north of the border in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Like most kids from Canada, ice hockey was Martin’s first sporting love. It wasn’t long before the allure of golf took hold. Like any true outlier in his given profession, Martin found himself in the shadow of two of the World’s best ball strikers and Canadian Legends, Moe Norman and George Knudson. “The time spent around George and Moe was invaluable and back then, I didn’t realize how truly special of an opportunity it was.” says Chuck. “I was able to watch, witness and in the case of Mr. Knudson, work for one of the best ball strikers of all-time. I started as a teaching assistant for Mr. Knudson 30 years ago. I guess I owe him for my overnight success as an instructor!”

Martin has consulted and taught PGA Tour Winners, Ryder Cup, President’s Cup and Major Champions. Martin is not a traveling Tour Coach. His preference is to stay home with his family and help Amateur golfers improve their games. During summer months, escaping the heat of Phoenix, he takes his family and Tour Striker Golf Academy on the road to various facilities in the US, Canada and abroad.
