Born in Sarnia and raised in Toronto, Ontario, Alan Carter started to swing golf clubs at the very young age of three years, following his golf course superintendent father around the fairways and greens of Southern Ontario. In 1980, Alan decided to test this passion for the game and entered the games workforce, finding a job in the back shop at the Rolling Hills GC, a place he remained for five seasons before stumbling across one of his mentors, Irv Lightstone, at Maple Downs Golf & Country Club. In 1985, Alan made his application to the Canadian PGA under Irv’s tutelage at Maple Downs, successfully completing his apprenticeship in 1990. In 1992, he transferred to the Alberta Zone, to open the Heritage Pointe GC south of Calgary in DeWinton, Alberta. After two successful seasons he then moved to the Jasper Park Lodge to become Head Professional and in 2001, Executive Professional, a position he maintains to this day. Alan’s playing background speaks for itself, and his affinity with the sport is evident from very early on. In 1981 he won the Ontario Provincial Best Ball Championship, he is a three time champion of the Prince George Pro-Am, has won the Maple Downs Pro-Am, the Meadowbrook Pro-Am, has finished in the top twenty at the Canadian Club Professional Championship five times and has over fifty top twenty finishes in his professional career. Over the years, as a Golf Professional, Alan has been recognized by his peers for many of his accomplishments, resulting in three nominations as Alberta’s Club Professional of the Year, five nominations as Merchandiser of the Year, and in 2004, he won the Provincial Award for Merchandiser of the Year. Alan’s professional career has been built on the solid foundation of community involvement combined with a strong education path, which includes a Business Diploma, as well as a Diploma in Hotel and Restaurant Management. As a Charter Member of the Rotary Club of Jasper, a Member of the Jasper Chamber of Commerce, and a volunteer in several other area organizations and Associations, Alan’s commitment to his community is one that demonstrates the leadership evident in his progress through life as a Golf Professional. In 2004, Alan was successfully voted into a seat on the Alberta PGA Board of Directors and is currently the Chairman of the Association’s Trade Show as well as the Finance Chairman.
