Three Alberta Pro’s Sit Top 5 at Assistants’ Championship
Dillon Batsel (Connaught GC), Mike Belbin (Royal Mayfair GC) and Scott Stiles (Inglewood G&CC) all sit within the top five after round one of the PGA Assistants’ Championship of Canada in Richmond, BC. Team Alberta currently sits in second in the Inter-Zone competition which will have to make up significant strokes today to challenge the Quebec team. PGA of Alberta Assistants’ Team
Congratulations to Adam Bruce (Glendale G&CC), Craig Gibson (Sirocco GC), Wes Heffernan (Golf Canada Centre) and David MacComb (Blackhawk GC) who will be representing Team Alberta at the 2017 PGA Assistants’ Championship of Canada at Richmond CC in Richmond, British Columbia on September 18-20. Pro-Assistant: Final Tournament of the Year!
The draw is now posted for the annual Callaway Golf Pro-Assistant taking place on September 20th & 21st at the beautiful Innisfail GC. Nine holes each day will be played in a different format: Best Ball, Scotch Ball & Scramble. This year’s tournament will comprise forty-three of Alberta's sharpest Head Pro/Assistant teams that hail from all throughout the province. Last year’s winning team from Redwood Meadows G&CC will be back to defend their title. Shotgun start for both days will be at 10am. Click here to see the current field and draw.

TIGHT FINISH AT MATCH PLAY FINAL
The cool and damp conditions didn’t stop Tyler LeBouthillier (Lynx Ridge GC) and Scott Smith (Bearspaw CC) from capturing the 2017 Team Match Play Championship hosted by Red Deer G&CC. The back and forth match saw Tyler and Scott jump out to a 3up lead after 12 holes but then Dallas Cantera (Cardiff G&CC) and his partner Jeremy Lavallee (Royal Mayfair GC) made a charge to take the match all the way to 18. Fortunately for Smith and LeBouthillier they managed to hold on for a 1up victory.

The PGA of Alberta is very excited to announce a brand new component to the 2017 Buying Show. Canada's premier food service supplier, Gordon Food Service (GFS), will introduce the food aspect of the Golf Industry at this year’s Buying Show. Buying Show attendees will have the opportunity to learn about the distinctive products and services offered by GFS’ family of private label brands to develop the facilities’ Food Service Department. FINALE SET FOR TEAM MATCH PLAY CHAMPIONSHIP
After a season long set of matches, the PGA of Alberta Team Match Play Championship now has its finalists. Representing the South will be Tyler LeBouthillier (Lynx Ridge GC) and Scott Smith (Bearspaw CC) who will take on the North representatives of Dallas Cantera (Cardiff G&CC) and Jeremy Lavallee (Royal Mayfair GC) in what should be an exciting match to conclude the Championship. There is no shortage of talent as three of the four competitors sit within the top 15 on the PGA of Alberta Order of Merit. The two teams will square off at Red Deer G&CC on Thursday, September 14th to determine who will take home this year’s title and $4,200 grand prize. WHITECOTTON WINS 2017 TOUR CHAMPIONSHIP
Knocking at the door all season long has been Keith Whitecotton (The Quarry) with some very consistent play and several top 5 finishes. Whitecotton capped off the season with a playoff win at the PGA of Alberta Tour Championship for his first victory of the season. Whitecotton had a dramatic birdie putt on 17 and a solid par on 18 to tie both Dustin Risdon (National Golf Academy @ McCall Lake) & Mike Belbin (Royal Mayfair GC) which forced the players to head back to 18 for extra holes. Whitecotton maintained his consistent play and ended with an impressive birdie to seal the victory when Belbin and Risdon both pared out. All three players finished the tournament with a total of 2-under par 138. Click here for final results.

Batsel Leads the Way at Sunice Tour Championship
Royal Mayfair GC presented a championship caliber course in pristine condition for the players on day one of the Sunice Tour Championship. Leading the charge was Dillon Batsel (Connaught GC) who ended the round as the clubhouse leader by posting 5 birdies and 10 pars through the first 18 holes to finish at 3-under 67. David MacComb (Blackhawk GC) and Keith Whitecotton (The Quarry) both had superb rounds finishing one back of the lead at 2-under 68. Eight other players all sit within 4 strokes back of leader Batsel. Round two on Tuesday, September 12th will kick off with tee times starting at 10:40am. ALLRED WINS THE SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP FOR THE THIRD STRAIGHT YEAR
Scott Allred (Elbow Springs GC) wins the 2017 PGA of Alberta Senior Championship with round one and two scores of 74-68, for a two-day total 142. Allred shot a spectacular 3-under today to come from behind to take the championship. This is his third straight Senior Championship title and isn’t showing any signs of slowing down. Lyndon King (Collicutt Siding GC) finished alone in second with a two day total of 147. Not far behind Allred and King was Cameron Code (Edson GC) who finished in third place by posting a two day total of 148. Click here for the final results.

Sunice Tour Championship Hosted at Royal Mayfair GC
The draw is now posted for the PGA of Alberta Tour Championship, sponsored by Sunice. After hosting the Tour Championship is 2015, Royal Mayfair will again play host to fifty of Alberta’s most competitive Professionals this year on September 11th & 12th. The top 10 money leaders from this years’ Players’ Tour events; the top 10 money leaders from this years’ Professional Series events; and the top 30 overall individual money leaders were all invited to play in this two day 36-hole competition. Defending Champion Dustin Risdon (National Golf Academy @ McCall Lake) will lead the field as he will look to defend his title and win his first Championship this year. Good friends take part in northern tournaments
Craig Gibson, who grew up in Brooks and now plays out of Calgary’s Sirocco GC, eagled the first playoff hole at a Players' Tour event at Glendale G&CC to edge out Royal Mayfair’s Mike Belbin after both players shot 4-under 68's. Then, Dillon Batsel of Medicine Hat’s Connaught GC won the two-day Professional Series at Blackhawk GC with rounds of 70-68. “Perfect,” said Gibson, Candidate For Membership at Sirocco GC. “We played junior golf together and competed in the Alberta Amateurs and the Canadian Amateur together. MACDONALD IN THE LEAD AFTER ROUND 1
We had some beautiful weather today at Belvedere G&CC for Round 1 of the 2017 PGA of Alberta Senior Championship, sponsored by MKRAK Management. The leader after round 1 is Bob MacDonald (Douglasdale GC) who posted a blistering even-par 71. In a three-way tie for second place is Dean Walker (PGA of Alberta Member), Lyndon King (Collicutt Siding GC) & Alan Carter (Edmonton CC) all posting rounds of 2-over 73. The rest of the competition is close behind with 7 more players posting a score of 75 or better. Round 2 should show some exciting play with such a tight leaderboard. Senior Championship hosted at Belvedere G&CC
The draw is posted for the 2017 PGA of Alberta Senior Championship sponsored by MKRAK Inc. This year’s Championship will be held at Belvedere G&CC on Wednesday, September 6 and Thursday, September 7. PLAYOFF TO DECIDE THE PRO-PRO BEST BALL
It was perfect weather conditions for the 36 teams today at The Ranch G&CC for the 2017 PGA of Alberta Pro-Pro Best Ball, sponsored by G&G Golf Company and Allstate Insurance. Eric Locke (Priddis Greens G&CC) and Samuel Kirkness (Priddis Greens G&CC) shot an 8-under par 63 and edged out Joseph Busetto (Riverside GC) & Gary Hartford (Riverside GC) in the first playoff hole to clinch the victory. Tour Championship Qualifiers
Invitations have been sent to all members that have qualified for the 2017 Sunice Tour Championship hosted this year at Royal Mayfair GC in Edmonton. This two-day 36-hole competition is comprised of the top 10 money leaders from the Players' Tour, the top 10 money leaders from the Professional Series and the top 30 individual money winners from the Association's individual money leaders who have not otherwise qualified. G&G Golf Company Pro-Pro Best Ball Goes to The Ranch G&CC
The draw is now posted for the annual G&G Golf Company Pro-Pro Best Ball presented by Allstate Insurance and hosted at The Ranch G&CC. Thirty-six teams of Professional golfers from throughout the Province will battle on the course to determine the top team of 2017. Shotgun start will get underway at 10:00am on Tuesday, September 5th. A light continental breakfast will be provided to all players in the morning along with a fantastic meal after the round. BATSEL HELD ON DOWN THE STRETCH
Dillon Batsel (Connaught GC) held on down the stretch to win the Golf Supply House Professional Series Event hosted by Blackhawk GC. Batsel shot a two day total 4-under 138 to win by four shots over Albert Pistorius (Pinebrook G&CC). Pistorius made a charge on day two shooting a 6-under 65. Four Advance to the Shaw Charity Classic
Four players qualify for the Champions Tour Shaw Charity Classic on Aug. 30 - Sept. 3 at Canyon Meadows G&CC. Tommy Tolles of Hendersonville, North Carolina, shot the course record 7-under 64 to lead the way, followed by Guy Boros at 6-under 65. Blackhawk GC is ready to host the PGA of Alberta two-day Golf Supply House Professional Series set to take place on August 29th & 30th. This is the final Professional Series of the season so players will attempt to qualify for the Tour Championship by being on the top 10 money list for Pro Series events. The Winston GC in Calgary saw 19 participants today giving it their all to qualify for the Shaw Charity Classic. However, only the top five earned a spot in the Event Qualifier being held on Tuesday, August 29th at The Hamptons GC. Bruce steals PGA of Alberta Championship on the 18th!
The warm weather and ideal course conditions made for a perfect day at the River Bend G&RA as 97 competitors went into round two of the PGA of Alberta Championship, sponsored by Club Car - TaylorMade adidas. Adam Bruce (Glendale G&CC) was able to sneak passed day one leader, Albert Pistorius (Pinebrook G&CC) with an eagle on 18 to claim his first Championship title. Bruce will take home $5,400 in prize money for winning the Championship with a 68-68-136 (8-under). In a three-way tie for second was Pistorius, Wes Heffernan (Golf Canada Centre) and Blaine Kruger (Stony Plain GC), all carding a two day total of 7-under 137. Rounding out the top five was Keith Whitecotton (The Quarry) after scoring a two day total 139. Click here for final results.
