Bob Paley, Head Professional at the Kananaskis Country GC, has been named the 2009 Canadian PGA Club Professional of the Year. "The most amazing thing about this award is that it is an acknowledgement to my mentors of the amazing kinds of people they are and the tools they have given me to be successful in my life... They and many others are why I am being honored with this life-changing award." The team at Kananaskis will also take home the award for 2009 Canadian PGA Merchandiser of the Year.

Jason Hnatiw, one of Edmonton's leading Associate Golf Professionals completed his two year term as Assistants' President on March 1st. Hnatiw, the Associate at the Edmonton Country Club helped to guide the Association's investments into the Promotion arena, contributing many volunteer hours to the benefit of Alberta's Assistant Professionals.

The PGA of Alberta recently held elections to its Board of Directors at the Association's Annual General Meeting. Alan Carter, Dean Ingalls, Gregg Schubert & Gary Ward were all re-elected for 3 year terms.

Congratulations to Brett Burgeson of the Country Hills GC, who finished 7th at the 2009 Canadian Club Professional Championship held at the PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, FL. Burgeson was one of three players in the field of 104 Head Professionals and Executive Professionals from across the country who shot 3 consecutive rounds under par.

After battling a brain tumour diagnosed in July, Ron Belbin passed away on November 16, 2009 at the age of 63. A Memorial Service has been set for Friday, November 20th at 2pm. The service will be held at the Connelly-Mckinley Millwoods Chapel located at 4820 Meridian St. (Hwy 14/Whitemud).

Led by Mike Belbin of Royal Mayfair GC and Darryl James of the National Golf Academy at McCall Lake, Team Alberta captured a victory in the Inter-Zone competition at the Canadian PGA Assistants' Championship in Quebec City. All four players enter the third and final round with a chance to win their first national Assistants' title, with Belbin and James leading the way at the top of the leaderboard.

Gord Courage of the CC of the Hamptons shot a second straight under-par round today to win the 2009 Bridgestone Senior Championship at Highlands GC. Kevin Day of Billy D's Golf Centre finished alone in second, four shots ahead of PGA of Alberta Life Members Frank Fowler and Wayne Stark, who also shared the Super Senior title for players over 60 years of age.

The season long PGA of Alberta Match Play Championship draws to a close on Thursday September 17 at the Red Deer G&CC. Brett Burgeson and Mike Belbin will compete for the Championship Title while Quinn Powell and Ryan Matiushyk will battle for the consolation prize. Both matches begin at 10:30am

Jonny White isn’t a new face at the Canmore Golf Club, but he will be taking on a new role this golf season. White received his CPGA card at the end of last season and he will now be taking a more active role at the golf course. “It was something I have always wanted to do,” said White. “When I was younger I always said I wanted to become a golf professional.
