Redwood Meadows G&CC Wins Pro-Assistant by a Landslide
The scenic yet challenging 27-hole course at The Quarry proved to be a perfect match for many of the 37 teams in the Callaway Golf Pro-Assistant. The pair from Redwood Meadows G&CC, Kevin Black and Murray Walter, went unchallenged for most of the two day event, shooting a remarkable 30-under par 186. The day one lead of 13-under seemed impressive, but they followed it up with 15 birdies and 1 eagle on day two to top their round one performance. Kevin and Murray will walk away with $3,200 in prize money along with the coveted title. The team from Cardiff G&CC, Dallas Cantera and Cody Hancock, finished in second place for the tournament after shooting a 21-under par 195. Redwood Meadows G&CC Takes Round One Lead at Pro-Assistant
Round one of the Callaway Golf Pro-Assistant hosted by The Quarry in Edmonton is now complete. The team of Kevin Black and Murray Walter from Redwood Meadows G&CC shined bright today as they set themselves away from the pack with a 13-under round one, giving them a two stroke cushion going into tomorrow. Sitting two strokes behind and tied for second are the teams from Cardiff G&CC (Dallas Cantera and Cody Hancock) and GolfTEC Calgary Beacon Heights (Josh Fleming and Craig Vogel). Dustin Risdon Wins PGA Assistants’ Championship of Canada presented by Callaway Golf
Dustin Risdon put the hammer down Thursday at Lora Bay Golf Club, winning the PGA Assistants’ Championship of Canada presented by Callaway Golf in astonishing fashion. The 35-year-old’s three-day total of 18-under-par (67-67-64) was 11-shots better than his nearest competitors, Mike Belbin, Thomas Keddy and Bryn Parry. “All week I had the same goal of getting to 18-under-par,” Risdon said. “I had to make three birdies coming home to get to the number and I did, so that’s pretty awesome.” Risdon’s final round 8-under-par 64 included nine birdies and a bogey—his first and only of the championship—at No. 11.

Garett Wins Final Players' Tour of the Season
To close out the Players’ Tour series, day two at Coyote Creek G&RV Resort saw great weather and low scores. Jenkinson continued sinking putts to finish with the tournament low of 9-under par 133. John McKiernan & Scott Anderson (The Golf Academy at River Bend) tied for second after both shooting 3-under 139 over the two days. Calgary Golf Professional caps off outstanding Tournament season
Ridiculous. How else do you explain the season that Dustin Risdon has had on the PGA of Alberta Tour? Including last week’s Sunice Tour Championship at Sundre GC— which he won by a staggering eight shots while shooting a course record 64 in the final round — Risdon has taken seven of the eight PGA of Alberta events he entered. In his only loss he finished second — at Calgary’s Heritage Pointe in brutal conditions. The runaway Order of Merit leader and a cinch to win Player of the Year, Risdon was as self-effacing as usual when describing his season that saw him win two professional series’ events, the Pro-Junior, a Players Tour event and three championships. Click here to read what Risdon had to say about his stellar season in the article written by Curtis Stock – Edmonton Journal.

Vold takes round one gold at Coyote Creek
Good weather during the 2016 golf season has become a novelty, yet today, the players lucked out with nothing but blue sky and sunshine for the final Players’ Tour event of the year. The tree lined fairways and lush greens at Coyote Creek G&RV Resort provided great course conditions, which meant low scores. Kolby Vold of Wolf Creek GR leads day one after shooting an impressive 5-under 66. Hot on Vold’s tail is Garett Jenkinson (Golf Performance Canada at Inglewood), who will go into round two only one shot back. Scott Anderson (The Golf Academy at River Bend) sits in third after shooting 2-under par 69. Fourth from the top and finishing 1-under, sits John McKiernan. After caddying at Shaw Charity Classic, Calgary Professional Dustin Risdon will tee it up at PGA of Alberta Tour Championsip
He’s admittedly more passionate now about teaching than swinging his own sticks. For local instructor Dustin Risdon, that short-term gig — lugging the weaponry for Spain’s Miguel Angel Martin during the 2016 Shaw Charity Classic — was all about gaining knowledge to share with his students. After donning a caddie bib last week, Risdon should be wearing a bullseye Tuesday-Wednesday at the PGA of Alberta’s Sunice Tour Championship at Sundre Golf Club. “Obviously, everything has gone my way,” said Risdon, who has a sparkling scoring average of 67.11 in eight PGA of Alberta get-togethers this season. “I didn’t plan on playing this well. But I got the Assistants Championship and the PGA Championship, so I guess this would be the last one on the list.” Click here to read the full article by Wes Gilbertson – Calgary Sun.

Canyon Meadows G&CC ready for golf's legends and the Shaw Classic
“It’s funny because this is Year 4 and every year has been a bit of a different buildup as far as excitement goes,” said Matt Freeman, the Head Pro at the club which is once again hosting the Shaw Charity Classic tournament. “This year I would say there’s a little more hype based on the field and the new players coming. The last-gasp qualifier for the Classic goes on Tuesday, August 30th at The Hamptons Golf Club, with 28 golfers teeing off in hopes of snaring one of six entries. Calgary Golf Professional, Darryl James, battling recent back injury in bid for Shaw spot
Darryl James is shooting to qualify for the Shaw Charity Classic. James has already teed it up twice against the PGA Tour Champions stars and is hoping to experience it all over again as the senior birdie-machines return to Canyon Meadows, but the 55-year-old has been bothered by a lower-back injury since being rear-ended in a traffic accident late last week. An instructor at National Golf Academy at Shaganappi, James was among the success stories at the qualifier in 2014 and received an exemption last summer. For PGA of Alberta Championship winner Dustin Risdon, bad weather is his edge
It was cold. It was wet. It was windy. Other than that it was a pretty nice day for the PGA of Alberta Championship played at the wet and soggy Edmonton Petroleum G&CC. Dustin Risdon of National Golf Academy at McCall Lake took the title for the second straight year. “I’m a mudder. This kind of weather doesn’t bother me at all,” said Risdon, who won the largest-field PGA of Alberta event of the season with a 1-under 71 to edge out Keith Whitecotton (The Quarry) and Wes Heffernan (Golf Canada Centre) by one shot.
