Keith Whitecotton (Edmonton Petroleum G&CC) is tied for third after shooting a round one score of 69 (3-under) at the 2013 PGA of Canada Club Professional Championship. Brett Burgeson (Country Hills GC) shot a 1-under 71 to sit tied for eleventh.

The final PGA of Canada national championship of 2013 features one of the deepest fields in the championship's 39-year history. Highlighted by nine past champions and 40 of the top 100 players from the PGA of Canada Player Rankings presented by RBC, the championship promises to be a thrilling affair from start to finish.

On Tuesday, September 17th, 2013 Jim Williams of Calgary, AB passed away at the age of 60. Aside from his loving children Kristin, Jesse and Griffin, Jim is survived by his "Queen" Joan Friedel and his first wife Janice Williams. Jim also leaves behind his mother Helen Williams, his sister Trish Gurr (Glen), his grandchildren Violet and Leif and numerous nieces and nephews. Jim was predeceased by his father Robert (Bob) Williams and his sister Karen Millwater. There will be no funeral service held at this time. A private celebration of life will be held at a later date. Greg McGarry & Blair Buttar (Glendale G&CC) shot a two day - 54 hole total of 17-under at the Innisfail GC to win the final tournament of the season. Finishing in second place at 15-under 201 were Scott Allred and Andrew Balchin (Elbow Springs GC).

After a beautiful day at the Innisfail GC the Elbow Springs GC and the Glendale G&CC both shot a 10-under 98 after round one at the 2013 Pro Assistant to be tied for the lead. Lynx Ridge GC is currently 3 back after shooting 101.

Scott Allred's steady play over two days earned him the 2013 PGA of Alberta Senior Crown. Bill Penny won the Super Senior Division while Don Price and Ray Meria shared Diamond Division honours.

Scott Allred and Darryl James both shot even par 71 at the Camrose GC to share the first round lead at the PGA of Alberta Senior Championship sponsored by Golf Vacations Ireland. Head Professional Kevin Broderson and Tom McKinlay Jr. from the Lacombe G&CC shot a 11-under 61 to win by two shots over Richard Stringer and Jimmy Cowan from the Earl Grey GC. Finishing in third place, with an 8-under 64, were Dale Tomlinson and Matt McWhirter from the Carstairs GC.

Congratulations to Mike Johnston (Jasper Park Lodge GC) and Adam Lewis (Banff Springs GC) who passed their playing ability test today at Devon GC.

Chris Pacholok from the Royal Mayfair GC shot even par 70 at the Devon GC to claim 1st place at the final Golf Supply House Professional Series event of the season. Stony Plain's Chris Toth finished one stroke back. Three others were tied at 73.

After 4 months of matches, the north team of Mike Belbin and Jeff Cuthbertson will duke it out with the south team of Darryl James and Jamie Kureluk to see who will be the 2013 Team Match Play Champions. The final match will take place on September 19th at the Red Deer G&CC.

Scott Allred posted one of his best results this year alongside Jim Rutledge and Rod Spittle at the PGA of Canada Senior Championship.

Blistering scores of 62 (Gross) and 60 (Net) at the Stony Plain GC by some of the province's best junior golfers highlighted action at the 2013 Callaway Golf Pro Junior held in Stony Plain. Drayton Valley professional Weston Gillett's 66 was good enough to claim the professional title.

Congratulations to Erin Martens (Windermere G&CC) and Kattereya Kennedy (Highwood G&CC) for being selected as this year's recipients of the 2013 PGA of Alberta Junior Scholarships. Each girl will receive a $1,500 scholarship towards their 2013 academics.

Mike Belbin (Royal Mayfair GC) followed a first round 68 with a 69 to finish at 7- under 137 and win the Cobra Puma Golf Assistants Championship held at Pine Hills GC by 3 shots over playing partner Garrett Jenkinson (Riverside Golf Academy). Tom Flockhart (Jasper Park Lodge GC) fell off the lead early but shot a respectable even par 144 to finish tied for third with Tyler LeBouthillier.

The front nine at Inglewood re-opens to the public today. Although there is still some evidence of the flood damage, Executive Professional Jason Stanier reported the tees and greens are in good condition, thanks in large part to countless hours of hard work by staff, members and volunteers. The cost for a nine-hole lap is $30 and the back nine at Inglewood will likely re-open in late August or early September.

With a tight leaderboard heading into the final round, the battle continued for the better part of the day between Keith Whitecotton (Edmonton Petroleum G&CC), defending champion Scott Allred (Elbow Springs GC), and past champion Jason Stanier (Inglewood G&CC). In the end Allred couldn’t be stopped taking home his 4th PING Canada Club Professional Championship title, the second in two years.

Keith Whitecotton (Edmonton Petroleum G&CC) shot a two-under par 70 in round one of the Club Pro Championship at Priddis Greens G&CC to take the lead. Tied for second at one-under par are Scott Allred (Elbow Springs GC), Jason Stanier (Inglewood G&CC) and Joel Monk (Heatherglen GC).

Jordan Krulicki (BelvedereG&CC) wins his first event at the Golf Supply House Professional Series Event held at the Ponoka Community GC. Jordon had a six hole stretch of five birdies and an eagle on his way to shooting a 3-under 69. Finishing second was Craig Willis (Pioneer Meadows GC) shooting a 1-under 71 with Kevin Broderson (Lacombe G&CC)a close third at 72.

The weather cooperated on day 2 of the Dexim Golfwear Ladies Championship held at Country Hills GC. Jacklynn Miller (Bearspaw CC) who shot 74 on day 1, fired a 76 today for a 2 day total of 150 to win her first PGA of Alberta Ladies Championship. Shooting 157 over the 2 days and finishing in second place was Jillian Wyne (Willow Park G&CC). Rounding out the top three was Elizabeth Goldsmith (Country Hills GC) who shot a two day total of 159.

The lightening didn’t stop Jacklynn Miller (Bearspaw CC) from firing a 2-over 74 on the Talons course at Country Hills GC in the PGA of Alberta Ladies Championship sponsored by Dexim Golfwear. Not far behind, sitting in second place is Jillian Wyne (Willow Park G&CC) who shot 75. Sitting in third place and shooting a 77 is Marsha Rogers (The Derrick G&WC).

Darryl James and Jamie Kureluk defeated Jeff MacGregor and Jason Stanier 1-up, advancing them to the semi-finals of the PGA of Alberta Team Match Play Championship. Only eight players remain in the championship with the semi-finals set to finish by August 21st.

The draw for the PGA of Alberta Ladies Championship, sponsored by Dexim Golfwear has been posted. Round one of two at Country Hills GC begins at 3:06pm on Monday, July 22nd.

The draw for the 11th Golf Supply House Professional Series event at Ponoka GC is now posted. The first tee-time for the one-day event on Wednesday, July 24th is 8:00am.

The top 30 money winners from the 2013 Players' Tour events has been released. These top 30 will compete with the top 20 overall money winners (to be released August 21st) at the 2013 Tour Championship in September at the Canal at Delacour.

A solid net 65 in the Caulfeild Apparel Pro-Lady North gave the Royal Mayfair GC the win today at the Sturgeon Valley G&CC. Finishing tied for second were Brent Chapman & Betty Adams (Edmonton Petroleum G&CC) and Rob MacPherson & Brenda MacPherson (Ponoka GC). Mike Belbin’s (Royal Mayfair GC) round of 4-under 68 was good for the individual pro win.

Mark Bicknell (Silver Springs G&CC), Darryl James (National GA), Garett Jenkinson (Riverside GA), and Jamie Kureluk (GolfTEC Calgary) all fired rounds of 4-under 68 forcing a four-way playoff. In the end it was James who came out on top, ending the playoff on the first hole with a birdie.

Darryl James (National Golf Academy @ Shaganappi) beat out Ron Laugher (Priddis Greens G&CC) and Matt Freeman (Canyon Meadows G&CC) in a five hole playoff to win the individual professional side.

Keith Whitecotton (Edmonton Petroleum G&CC) beat out Dallas Cantera (Edmonton CC) and Greg McGarry in a 1-hole playoff today after shooting a 1-under 70 to win the Golf Supply House Professional Series at the The Ranch GC. Chris Toth (Stony Plain GC) and Cameron Fawns (Country Hills GC) came tied for 4th after shooting a 1-over par of 72.

Just ten days remain until the July 19th PGA of Alberta Junior Scholarship Deadline. Two scholarships of $1,500 will be handed out once again this year to aspiring junior golfers, please make sure any eligible applicants submit their forms in time.

Ron Laugher (Priddis Greens G&CC) and Garett Jenkinson (Riverside Golf Academy) both shot one-under par, 71 to finish as co-winners. Due to inclement weather the two agreed to forego a playoff and decided to split first-place. Tied for third with 72 were Mark Corrigan (Pinebrook G&CC) and Joel Monk (Heather Glen GC).

“Twelve years in the waiting,” Whitecotton said after he outlasted the Royal Mayfair’s Mike Belbin on the third playoff hole at Wetaskiwin’s Montgomery Glen. Both former Canadian Tour players, Whitecotton and Belbin both finished the two-day event deadlocked at 6-under par after Whitecotton drained a 30-footer on the last hole of regulation to get into the playoff.

36 holes weren’t enough to decide a winner for Mike Belbin (Royal Mayfair GC) and Keith Whitecotton (Edmonton Petroleum G&CC). The two players finished the tournament with six-under par totals of 138. After three-holes of sudden death golf, Keith Whitecotton finally edged out Mike Belbin to take home first place. Scott Anderson tied the course record with a 6- under par 66 to finish solo third at 5-under.

With the recent floods causing significant damage to golf courses in southern Alberta, the PGA of Alberta is seeking to help as many Members as possible by offering assistance in securing employment for the remainder of the season through connections with other local golf courses.

Mike Belbin (Royal Mayfair GC) and Keith Whitecotton (Edmonton Petroleum G&CC) are tied for the lead at four under with first rounds of 68 at the Players Tour event held at the Montgomery Glen GC. Darryl James (National Golf Acadamy) sits in third with a first round 70 and David MacComb (Blackhawk Golf Club) in fourth with a one-under 71.

“Everybody just wants a fair test. They don’t want it to be overly difficult. They just want to have fun,” said Tim Sawatzky, the GM and Executive Professional at the Lynx Ridge GC “It’s just an absolute joy to play. It’s not overly long, not overly difficult. And it’s in great shape. The best I’ve seen it, almost, in my four years here.”

Due to the flooding that has occured in and around the Calgary area, the Golf Supply House Professional Series event at Valley Ridge GC on July 8th has been moved to the Elbow Springs GC.

Jacklynn Miller (Bearspaw CC) shot a 1- under 70 to win the Golf Supply House Professional Series Event held at Lakeside GC by 1 shot over playing partner Matt Freeman (Canyon Meadows G&CC). Sam Hart (Hamptons GC) and Joel Monk (Heatherglen GC) finished third with 72.

On Friday, June 21st, Windermere G&CC’s Head Professional Matt Johnson and Teaching Professional Cam Martens will make the best of the summer solstice by holding their 3rd Annual Longest Day of Golf charity fundraiser. Playing from sun up until sun down the pair hope to raise more than $12,000 for KidSport.

Jamie Gerlitz (Picture Butte GC) shot a course record 7-under 65 at the Golf Supply House Professional Series Event held at the Olds Central Highlands GC. Weston Gillett (Drayton Valley GC) finished second shooting a 3-under 69. Finishing third with 2-under 70 was Tyler LeBouthillier (Silver Springs G&CC).

After firing a team net 63 in the Caufeild Apparel Pro Lady South, Tim Sawatzky and Shelley McMurray finished atop the leaderboard at the 48 team event while Scott Allred's round of 69 held up to win the individual professional side.

Burgeson is among the most competitive club pros in the county and he wants to stick around for the weekend at the ATB Financial Classic, but his goals don't end there. “I think the pressure on me is to represent my club and my association and represent them in a good way that I can truly say I made them proud,” Burgeson said. “That doesn't mean that I'm going to break the course record. That means that I'm going to be a competitor. I'm going to try my best. I'm going to be level-headed. I'm going to be a good guy to play with for my fellow competitors. I'm going to be good with our volunteers. I'm going to have a smile on my face no matter what happens.

Due to the significant amount of rain we have had over the past few days, the Tournament of Champions scheduled to be played today at the Carnmoney G&CC has been postponed. The event will be re-scheduled to be played on September 9th, 2013.

The PGA on Wheels Program is the PGA of Alberta's newest community initiative program designed to promote the Association at local events throughout the province and enhance the relationships our Members enjoy with residents in the communities in which they live and serve. Thank you to everyone who helped make the 2013 Edmonton and Calgary Golf Shows a success. We saw a substantial increase in attendance at both shows and hit a record in the Clearance Centres (total of $321,000). A total of $12,319.00 was also raised for the Ronald McDonald House Northern Alberta and the Kids Cancer Care foundation.

At the Association’s Annual General Meeting in Calgary, Alberta, Brett Burgeson (Head Professional, Country Hills GC) succeeded Alan Carter (Executive Professional, Jasper Park Lodge) as Association President. Carter’s two–year term recently came to a close.

At the PGA of Alberta Annual General Meeting held March 4, 2013, Blair Felesky (Executive Professional, Pine Hills GC) and Matt Johnson (Head Professional, Windermere G&CC) were elected to the Board of Directors. Dale Tomlinson (Head Professional, Carstairs GC) and Gary Ward (Executive Professional, Edmonton CC) were re-elected.

At the PGA of Alberta Annual General Meeting held March 4, 2013, the Assistants' Board of Directors' held elections resulting in six individuals being seated. On Thursday, February 28th, Trevor Goplin and Adam Werbicki of The Derrick G&WC along with Enid Botchett of Golf Canada organized a National Golf in Schools Awareness Day in Edmonton. 40 school teachers met with the group (including Josh Copeland of The Derrick G&WC, Matt Johnson, Troy Golden and Cam Martens of the Windermere G&CC, Greg McGarry and Blair Buttar of the Glendale G&CC and Jordan Rodda and Tyler Willner of the Sturgeon Valley GC) to learn more about the program through a classroom session and hands-on experience. The session was rated excellent by those in attendance "Fantastic! All golf pros were knowledgeable, helpful & activities were informative and fun. Excellent set-up with wonderful resources”

The PGA of Alberta’s Annual General Meeting will take place at 8:00am on March 4th, 2013 at the Carriage House Inn. Information on the AGM has been mailed to all Members, including mail-in ballots for both the Board of Directors and the Assistants’ Board. The Education Committee is excited to announce Chuck Cook as one of the presenters at the 2013 PGA of Alberta Spring Seminar on March 4th & 5th in Calgary, AB. Chuck Cook was an anonymous young teacher when he asked Ben Hogan if he could watch him hit practice balls on a range in Texas in 1980. Cook waited until Hogan finished, gathered his courage and asked the famously taciturn legend if there was anything he lived by. He told me it came down to 10 two-letter words: “If it is to be, it is up to me” - I never forgot that, says Cook. Cook started out as a range assistant in the earliest incarnation of the Golf Digest Schools, helping such teachers as Davis Love Jr., Bob Toski and Jim Flick. Within two years, Cook had worked his way up to an instructor's position at the Schools, giving momentum to a career that includes teaching five major-championship winners—Tom Kite, Corey Pavin, Payne Stewart, Bill Rogers and Mark Brooks.

As we look to provide additional opportunities for all Members, prospective Members and industry partners to connect with one another during the off season, the Association has organized a series of Roundtable Discussions to be held at various locations throughout the province.

The PGA of Alberta handed out the hardware on October 17th naming its annual award winners in various categories from Junior Leader of the Year to Club Professional of the Year.

New programming developed by PHE Canada in partnership with Golf Canada and the PGA of Canada to introduce high school students to golf as part of physical education curriculum. The introduction of the high school program builds on the success of the Golf in Schools Elementary School Program which is currently in close to 1,800 schools since the program launched in 2009. With 4,600 high schools and nearly 10,000 elementary schools across Canada, the program has the opportunity to introduce the sport of golf to nearly 4.5 million students.

Dean Ingalls and Mark Corrigan (Pinebrook G&CC) shot 10-under today for a two day total of 17-under to beat the Glendale G&CC team of Greg McGarry and Blair Buttar who put together a two day total of 16-under. Coming in tied for third was the Riverview GC (Trevor Ellerman and Derek Berger) and Lynx Ridge GC (Tim Sawatzky and Nathan Pruden) who shot 15-under.

Heading into the final round of the PGA of Canada Assistants' Championship, Alberta's Mike Belbin (Royal Mayfair) holds a 3 shot lead over four players including Riverside's Gary Hartford.

Jamie Kureluk (GolfTEC) and Gord Courage (CC of The Hamptons) came out on top today at the G&G Pro Pro Best Ball after beating out Dale Tomlinson (Carstairs GC) and Phil McCluskey (Akokiniskway GC) in a one hole playoff. Both teams shot an impressive score of 8-under 64 at the Links of GlenEagles.

Mike Belbin (Royal Mayfair GC) beat Todd Halpen (Golf Canada Centre) two and one to capture the 2012 PGA of Alberta Match Play Championship at Red Deer G&CC. This is Belbin’s second Match Play Championship win, his last being in 2009. On the consolation side, Jamie Kureluk (GolfTEC Calgary) defeated Joel Johannson (Meadowlands GC).

Mike Belbin (Royal Mayfair GC) shot an impressive 6-under 65 today to capture the Blackhawk GC competitive course record and to win the 2012 Fletcher Tour Championship with a total of 137. Shooting 1-under 70 today was Brett Burgeson (Country Hills GC) who finished alone in second with a two day total of 141 and Jamie Kureluk (GolfTEC) shot a 3-under round of 68 to finish with a total of 142.

Gord Courage (CC of The Hamptons) was the lone player under par Tuesday shooting a 2-under 69 at the 2012 Fletcher Tour Championship being hosted by the Blackhawk GC. National Golf Academy @ McCall Lake team, Darryl James and Steve Price, shot an impressive net score of 9-under 63 today at the Golf Trends/Flightscope Pro Senior at the Olds Central Highlands GC. Coming in tied for second was the National Golf Academy Dome team of Dan Cameron and Martin Paull and the Nanton GC team of Mike Fahey and Gord Burrows who shot a net team score of 8 – under 64.

Quinn Powell (Inglewood G&CC) beat out Jason Haley (Golf Canada Centre) in a 3-hole playoff today after shooting a 1-under 70 to win the Golf Supply House Professional Series at the Inglewood G&CC. Gord Newis (Glencoe G&CC) and Jimmy Saran (Paradise Canyon GR) came tied for 3rd after shooting an even par of 71.

“It was a dogfight all the way around,” said Calgary’s Scott Allred, who won the two-day Alberta PING Canada Club Professional Championship at the Glendale Golf & Country Club by two shots over Blackhawk’s Craig McArthur.

The Glendale G&CC played host to 55 of the top Club Professionals in Alberta this week, and the scores posted over the two day 36-hole competition were very impressive. Scott Allred posted scores of 65-72 to fend off his nearest competitor, Craig McArthur in an event that saw many red numbers.

After an opening round 74, Darryl James shot 69 in the 2nd and final round of the PGA of Alberta Senior Championship to force a playoff with Round One Leader Scott Allred (70-73). James prevailed on the first extra hole after rolling in a 3 footer for birdie moments after Allred's 12 footer finished on the lip of the cup.

Having started the day at 6 a.m. Gillett and his group spent the day on the Drayton Valley GC trying to make their way through as many rounds as possible. Battling fatigue, dehydration and extreme temperatures, they battled on and by the time the wrapped the day up at dusk they had played 13 rounds.

The Highwood G&CC in High River will host the Golf Supply House Professional Series event on Monday, June 25th. The addition of Highwood to the tournament schedule means all of the venues have now been set for the 2012 PGA of Alberta tournament season. Registration is available online and some events are filling up quickly.

The Picture Butte GC has opened nine holes on regular greens as of February 1st and is hoping to have another nine open by the weekend if the weather cooperates. The PGA of Alberta announced today an agreement with Air Miles Reward Miles, whereby Golf Courses employing PGA of Alberta Members will be able to offer its customers the opportunity to collect reward miles on select purchases made. Carter and James made birdie on their final two holes to edge the Riverside Golf Academy team of Rob McLeay and Garett Jenkinson by a single shot. Three teams (Lakeside GC, Glendale G&CC and Royal Mayfair GC) finished three shots behind in a tie for third.

Mike Belbin shot a 1-under round of 71 today to cap a great week at the Cherry Hill Club in Ontario and capture the 2011 PGA of Canada Assistants' Championship. Belbin defeated Bryn Parry by four shots for his first national title.

Keith Whitecotton (Edmonton Petroleum G&CC) defeated Dave Henzie (Calgary Elks Lodge & GC) six and five at the Red Deer G&CC to win the 2011 Match Play Championship. Dale Tomlinson (Carstairs GC) defeated Tyson Cote (Lewis Estates G&CC) to win the Consolation bracket four and three.

Head Professional Dean Sklarenko and Apprentice Chris DiPasquale of the Picture Butte GC combined for a best-ball score of 7-under 64 to win the 2011 G&G Golf Company Pro-Pro Best Ball today at The Ranch GC. Blair Buttar and Greg McGarry of the Glendale G&CC finished one shot behind after a 6-under 65, while three other teams finished in a tie for third at 5-under for the event.

On Saturday September 10th Peter David Cushner passed away at the age of 60. He is survived by his wife Cheryl and 3 children, Nicole, Natalie and Ryan. Peter had been a member of the Canadian Tour in the early 70,s before working as an Assistant Professional at the Derrick Golf Club (Edmonton) & the Broadmoor Golf Club (Sherwood Park). He went on to spend 25 years as the Head Professional at the Lloydminster Golf Club. Among his many tournament victories Peter was an Alberta & Saskatchewan PGA Champion along with a Saskatchewan Senior PGA Championship. His sportsmanship and exemplary play moved the PGA of Saskatchewan to name there order of merit the "Peter Cushner Award". He was a Board member and a Past President of the PGA of Saskatchewan. His service was held on Saturday September 17th In Edmonton and was attended by family, friends along with a number of brother Golf Professionals.

Keith Whitecotton of the Edmonton Petroleum G&CC will defend his 2010 Match Play Championship in this year's final against Dave Henzie of the Calgary Elks Lodge GC on Friday, September 16th at the Red Deer G&CC. Riverside GC in Edmonton celebrated its 60th anniversary on August 22nd, 2011 with a nine-hole tournament and rededication ceremony. Long-time members shared stories of the changes to the golf course over the past 60 years, making it one of the country's busiest municipal courses.

Scott Allred of the Elbow Springs GC followed up his first-round 72 with an even-par 71 in the final round to take home his first PGA of Alberta Senior Championship today at the Windermere G&CC. Allred defeated two-time defending champion Gord Courage of the CC of the Hamptons by four shots after Courage shot the low round of the event, a 3-under 68. Darrell McDonald of the Mill Woods GC finished alone in third place five shots behind Allred, while Burt Drysdale, a PGA of Alberta Life Member, won the Super Senior title for players aged 60 or over.

Mike Belbin of the Royal Mayfair GC won his second straight Golf Supply House Assistants' Championship today at the Stony Plain GC. Belbin added a 1-under par 71 to his first-round 66 for a three-shot victory over Darryl James of the National Golf Academy at McCall Lake. Belbin made eagle on the par-4 17th after two consecutive bogeys on 15 and 16 to finally distance himself from James after a hard-fought battle throughout the back nine. Jamie Gerlitz of the Lacombe G&CC finished alone in third place at 3-under for the tournament.

Canyon Meadows' Associate Professional Matt Freeman and partner Jeff Farris won the 2011 Riley's Best Ball title on Sunday at their home course. The team combined for a 2 & 1 win over Clayton Olson and Cam Duncan from Heritage Pointe GC. On the Senior Men's side, Priddis Greens G&CC Head Professional Ron Laugher and partner George Mader took home the title, while Willow Park Associate Professional Cathy Burton and G & G Golf Company sales rep Kim Carrington took home the Ladies' championship.

On Tuesday, June 21st, four CPGA Golf Professionals from the Windermere Golf & Country Club made the best of the summer solstice by holding their 2nd Annual Longest Day of Golf charity fundraiser. The pros played from sun up till sun down and raised more than $11,700 for KidSport, a children’s charitable organization that helps kids from low-income families participate in organized sport programs.

The May 16th Callaway Professional Series event scheduled for Kananaskis Country GC has been cancelled as the golf course will not be open by the tournament date. A new venue and date will be found for this event and those currently signed up will have first right of refusal for their spot.

The draw has been posted for the 2011 PGA of Alberta Match Play Championship. This year's brackets are a tribute to the Association's history, highlighting four great players and golf professionals. Round 1 must be completed no later than Monday, May 23rd.

Bill Quilley, a Life Member of the CPGA, passed away Wednesday April 27 in Edmonton at age 77 after battling prostate cancer. Details of a service to be held at the Highlands G&CC are attached.

The PGA Championship of Canada will make a return to the national tournament schedule this season, and Cottonwood G&CC in DeWinton will play host from June 14th - 18th. The tournament will be conducted as a match play championship between the highest-ranked 64 players from the Canadian PGA Player Rankings.

Brett Burgeson (Country Hills GC), Mike Belbin (Royal Mayfair G&CC), and Darryl James (National Golf Academy) ranked in the top 15 on the CPGA National Player Rankings. Other PGA of Alberta Members in the top 100 Player Rankings include; Chris Toth (Riverside GC), Blair Buttar (Glendale G&CC), Scott Allred (Elbow Springs GC), and Todd Fiske (River Bend GC).

Following the success of the Edmonton Golf Show two weeks ago, this past weekend's Calgary Golf Show also marked a huge success with approximately 4,500 Calgary-and-area golfers walking through the door to see what the coming season has to offer. Those consumers also contributed to record-setting Clearance Centre numbers, which surpassed $150,000 for the first time in the history of the Shows.

Mike Belbin of the Royal Mayfair GC came from four shots back today at Inglewood G&CC to become the 2010 Golf Supply House PGA of Alberta Assistants' Champion for the second time in three years. Belbin added a 4-under 67 to his 5-under 66 from Round 1 to pass Jamie Kureluk of Cottonwood G&CC and take home a two-shot win. Kureluk finished the day in second place, while Troy Prusky finished alone in third place at 3-under.

Congratulations to Brett Burgeson of the Country Hills GC, who finished 7th at the 2009 Canadian Club Professional Championship held at the PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, FL. Burgeson was one of three players in the field of 104 Head Professionals and Executive Professionals from across the country who shot 3 consecutive rounds under par.

After battling a brain tumour diagnosed in July, Ron Belbin passed away on November 16, 2009 at the age of 63. A Memorial Service has been set for Friday, November 20th at 2pm. The service will be held at the Connelly-Mckinley Millwoods Chapel located at 4820 Meridian St. (Hwy 14/Whitemud).

All four players enter the third and final round with a chance to win their first national Assistants' title, with Belbin and James leading the way at the top of the leaderboard.

Mike Belbin of the Royal Mayfair GC defeated Brett Burgeson of Country Hills GC in the final of the 2009 PGA of Alberta Match Play Championship at Red Deer G&CC. Both Players had won six previous matches to reach the final. In the consolation final, Ryan Matiushyk defeated Quinn Powell of River's Edge GC.

Gord Courage of the CC of the Hamptons shot a second straight under-par round today to win the 2009 Bridgestone Senior Championship at Highlands GC. Kevin Day of Billy D's Golf Centre finished alone in second, four shots ahead of PGA of Alberta Life Members Frank Fowler and Wayne Stark, who also shared the Super Senior title for players over 60 years of age.

The season long PGA of Alberta Match Play Championship draws to a close on Thursday September 17 at the Red Deer G&CC. Brett Burgeson and Mike Belbin will compete for the Championship Title while Quinn Powell and Ryan Matiushyk will battle for the consolation prize. Both matches begin at 10:30am

Joel Monk, Head Professional at the Heatherglen GC in Calgary joined his sister Kathryn Schneider at the Cottonwood G&CC, where the pair grew up as juniors, to win the 2009 PGA of Alberta Cutter & Buck Pro Lady.

Jonny White isn’t a new face at the Canmore Golf Club, but he will be taking on a new role this golf season. White received his CPGA card at the end of last season and he will now be taking a more active role at the golf course. “It was something I have always wanted to do,” said White. “When I was younger I always said I wanted to become a golf professional. And it wasn’t to play on Tour, it was a teaching professional.”
