Greg McGarry of the Glendale G&CC finished three shots back and will join Stanier as the first two players to solidify their spots on Team Alberta at the 2010 Canadian Club Professional Championship in Port St. Lucie, FL.

Jason Stanier of the Inglewood G&CC shot a 3-under 68 today at the Earl Grey GC to take a one-shot lead after the first round of the 2010 PING Canada Club Professional Championship. Kevin Davison of the Nanton GC finished at 2-under 69, while Greg McGarry of the Glendale G&CC sits another shot back after a 1-under 70.

Mike Belbin of the Royal Mayfair GC came from four shots back today at Inglewood G&CC to become the 2010 Golf Supply House PGA of Alberta Assistants' Champion for the second time in three years. Belbin added a 4-under 67 to his 5-under 66 from Round 1 to pass Jamie Kureluk of Cottonwood G&CC and take home a two-shot win. Kureluk finished the day in second place, while Troy Prusky finished alone in third place at 3-under.

Congratulations to Brett Burgeson of the Country Hills GC, who finished 7th at the 2009 Canadian Club Professional Championship held at the PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, FL. Burgeson was one of three players in the field of 104 Head Professionals and Executive Professionals from across the country who shot 3 consecutive rounds under par.

After battling a brain tumour diagnosed in July, Ron Belbin passed away on November 16, 2009 at the age of 63. A Memorial Service has been set for Friday, November 20th at 2pm. The service will be held at the Connelly-Mckinley Millwoods Chapel located at 4820 Meridian St. (Hwy 14/Whitemud).

All four players enter the third and final round with a chance to win their first national Assistants' title, with Belbin and James leading the way at the top of the leaderboard.

Gord Courage of the CC of the Hamptons shot a second straight under-par round today to win the 2009 Bridgestone Senior Championship at Highlands GC. Kevin Day of Billy D's Golf Centre finished alone in second, four shots ahead of PGA of Alberta Life Members Frank Fowler and Wayne Stark, who also shared the Super Senior title for players over 60 years of age.

The season long PGA of Alberta Match Play Championship draws to a close on Thursday September 17 at the Red Deer G&CC. Brett Burgeson and Mike Belbin will compete for the Championship Title while Quinn Powell and Ryan Matiushyk will battle for the consolation prize. Both matches begin at 10:30am

Gord Courage of the CC of the Hamptons leads a field of 26 of the PGA of Alberta's Senior Professionals by five shots heading into the second round of the 2009 Bridgestone Senior Championship. The Callaway Golf Professional Series Event Scheduled for Valley Ridge on May 12 has been re-scheduled for July 6, 2009 beginning at 7:30am.

The Wilson Staff - Loft 8 Club Challenge Pro Am has been rescheduled to September 8th at 10am at the Alberta Springs Golf Resort.

Trevor Goplin, Head Professional at The Derrick G&WC in Edmonton opened the season with an even par 71 on his home course to win the Callaway Professional Series Season Opening Event.

Jonny White isn’t a new face at the Canmore Golf Club, but he will be taking on a new role this golf season. White received his CPGA card at the end of last season and he will now be taking a more active role at the golf course. “It was something I have always wanted to do,” said White. “When I was younger I always said I wanted to become a golf professional. And it wasn’t to play on Tour, it was a teaching professional.”

Being a club professional can be a demanding job, and Silvertip’s new head golf professional, Kelli Fry, feels it can detract women from getting their pro cards.
