Wes Heffernan Goes Low at ATB Financial Classic
PGA of Alberta member Wes Heffernan (Golf Canada Centre) has himself a fantastic third round at the Mackenzie Tour ATB Financial Classic shooting a 5-under 66 to put himself one back of the lead at 11-under going into the final round tomorrow (August 13). Scott Allred Has Another Top Finish at National Championship
Congratulations to Executive Professional Scott Allred (Elbow Springs GC) on another top finish at the PGA of Canada Seniors’ Championship hosted at the Burlington G&CC in Ontario. Scott finished at 1-under for the tournament with rounds of 74-68-67. He will now look to defend the PGA of Alberta Senior Championship presented by MKRAK after winning the title two years in a row and four overall. The Senior Championship this year will be hosted at Belvedere G&CC in Sherwood Park on September 6 & 7. Click here for full National Championship results.

Scholarship Deadline is Approaching!
There is still time to complete an application for the PGA of Alberta Junior Scholarships! Two of four $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to children of PGA of Alberta Members (no golf experience needed) and the other two will be awarded to selected Alberta Juniors, 18 years or younger, who meet the specific criteria. Course Record Set on the Way to Victory
The stage was set for round two of the PGA of Alberta PING Club Pro Championship for one Professional to stand above the rest and forever place their name in history. Craig McArthur of Blackhawk GC found his game at the right time to claim this year’s Championship with a dominant 3 stroke victory. Craig finished with a 4-under (66) for the day and 3-under overall (137 total) for the Championship. With the 66, Craig shot the course record at newly renovated Derrick G&WC. Craig will take home $3,000 in prize money and also secures himself a spot on the Club Pro Team which will represent Team Alberta at the National Championship. Kevin Broderson (Lacombe G&CC) had himself a fantastic round scoring 7 birdies for the day and finishing in second place with a two day score of even par (140 total). Rounding out the top three was Jason Stanier (Inglewood G&CC) with a two day score of 3-over par (143 total). Click here for full Championship results.

Cantera Stays Even at PING Club Pro Championship
Players could not have asked for better conditions today for the annual PGA of Alberta Club Professional Championship sponsored by PING Canada. Fifty-four of Alberta’s premier Head and Executive Professionals competed at The Derrick G&WC for the chance to be crowned this year’s Champion. Leading the way for round one was Dallas Cantera (Cardiff G&CC) after shooting a round one score of even par 70. Falling one stroke back in a 3-way tie for second spot is Murray McCourt (The Ranch G&CC), Jason Stanier (Inglewood G&CC) and Craig McArthur (Blackhawk GC). The Championship is still very much up for grabs tomorrow with 18 competitors all sitting within 5 strokes or less of leader Dallas Cantera. Action resumes bright and early tomorrow morning with the first tee time at 8:00am. Top group of McCourt, Stanier and Cantera will tee off at 10:50am. Calgary's Kyle Miller set to make history
PGA of Alberta Member Kyle Miller is set to make history as the first golfer with cerebral palsy to play in PGA Tour-sanctioned event. He will achieve this when he cracks his opening drive Thursday (August 10th) at the Mackenzie Tour-PGA Tour Canada’s ATB Financial Classic at Country Hills GC. A PGA of Canada-certified instructor at GolfTEC Calgary Midnapore, Miller is on the list of sponsor exemptions for the 2017 ATB Financial Classic. MURPHY WINS HIS FIRST
Gage Murphy (Cardiff G&CC) wins his first professional golf tournament by capturing the Golf Supply House Professional Series Event hosted by Speargrass GC. Murphy shot a blistering round of 5-under 67 to narrowly beat runner up Albert Pistorius (Pinebrook G&CC) by 1. Dillon Batsel (Connaught GC) finished third with a 3-under 69. Shaw Charity Classic Qualifiers
The PGA of Alberta will once again be hosting two Qualifiers for the 2017 Shaw Charity Classic. The Pre-Qualifier which is open to Amateurs and Professionals alike, aged 50 years or older, will be taking place at The Winston GC on August 24th. Those who qualify for the Event Qualifier will head to The Hamptons GC on August 29th. The Shaw Charity Classic will be taking place at Canyon Meadows G&CC from August 30th to September 3rd. Robert Doucette in Memoriam (1972-2017)
After a difficult battle with a brain tumor, Robert Doucette passed away this morning, August 4, 2017 at the age of 45. He is survived by his wife Leslie. As a member of the PGA of Canada for over 20 years, Rob became known for how much he gave back to the game. Twelve years ago Rob made the move from the PGA of Manitoba to take his position as Head Professional at the Hinton GC and was a valued member of the PGA of Alberta since then. Those who knew Rob will continue to remember his passion for the game and will miss him greatly. Information on the service for Rob will be posted as soon as it is confirmed.

HEFFERNAN WINS WHERE IT BEGAN
Wes Heffernan (Golf Canada Centre) went back to Highwood G&CC where he started his junior career to capture the Players Tour Event sponsored by Jancor Agencies. Heffernan carded a 3-under 68 to win by 1 shot over Darryl James (NGA @ Shaganappi). Josh Fleming (GolfTEC Calgary Beacon Heights) rounds out the top three with a 1-under 70. PING Club Pro Championship
The PGA of Alberta PING Club Pro Championship will be taking place next week on August 9th and 10th at The Derrick G&WC in Edmonton, a Jeff Mingay designed course. This year’s field consists of 54 of Alberta’s finest Head Professionals and Executive Professionals who will compete in the two-day stroke play Championship to determine this year’s victor and for a piece of the $15,425 purse. PGA of Alberta Order of Merit
The new leader of the PGA of Alberta Order of Merit is now Craig Gibson (Sirocco GC) after winning the Assistants’ Championship. With the win, Craig has secured himself a spot of the Cobra Puma Golf Assistants’ Team that will go on to represent Team Alberta in the PGA Assistants' Championship of Canada at Richmond CC in British Columbia. Craig Gibson Wins Assistants’ Championship in a Playoff Battle
Spectators gathered around the 1st tee and 18th green of Cottonwood G&CC for the Assistants’ Championship, sponsored by Cobra Puma Golf, to watch 74 of Alberta’s top Assistants’ take on the quick surfaces. A playoff on hole 18 was needed to decide the winner. With spectators and fellow competitors lining the green, Locke’s second shot of the hole went into the water and opened the door for Gibson to claim the 2017 Assistants’ Championship title with an easy 2-putt, for a final score of 2-under 140 over 36 holes. The battle for third place resulted in a 2-way tie consisting of Kasey Timms (Highlands GC) and Braden Chown (Desert Blume GC) who both posted a score of 1-under 141. Scott Smith Leads at Assistants’ Championship
The 27th annual PGA of Alberta Assistants’ Championship sponsored by Cobra Puma Golf started with great conditions for the 74 competitors that took to Cottonwood G&CC in De Winton, Alberta. Leading the field after round one was Scott Smith (Bearspaw CC) after shooting a low of 1-under 70. Sitting one back of Smith are the likes of six other Assistant Professionals that include Kasey Timms (Highlands GC), Eric Locke (Priddis Greens G&CC), Kolby Vold (Wolf Creek GR), Mike Belbin (Royal Mayfair GC), Braden Chown (Desert Blume GC) and Jordan Weich (Earl Grey GC), who all shot even par 71 for the day. Assistants' Championship presented by COBRA PUMA GOLF
The draw for the PGA of Alberta Assistants' Championship presented by Cobra Puma Golf is now posted. Seventy-five of the top Professionals will compete for the $17,000 purse and to be crowned this year’s Champion at Cottonwood G&CC. Valley Ridge GC wins the Pro-Senior at Inglewood G&CC
Despite the extremely hot conditions, team Valley Ridge GC was able to finish the day with a victory at the 2017 PGA of Alberta Pro-Senior event. Jeremy Maher and partner Pat Naim posted a team net best ball score of 9-under 62 to clinch the victory. Winning on the Individual Pro side in a 4-hole playoff was David MacComb (Blackhawk GC), shooting a 4-under 67 which edged out Dustin Risdon (NGA @ McCall Lake) and Brett Burgeson (Country Hills GC). A massive field of 60 teams located throughout the province will battle for the coveted Pro-Senior title as well as a piece of the $15,450 purse. Shotgun start begins in the afternoon at 1pm. Team Match Play Championship – North & South Finals
Round 4 is now complete for the PGA of Alberta Team Match Play Championship which began back on May 17th. The final four teams will now advance on to the South and North finals. The South final will be the teams of Scott Smith (Bearspaw CC) & Tyler LeBouthillier (Lynx Ridge GC) vs. Jim Boomer (Innisfail GC) & Chris Herkel (Innisfail GC) while the North finals will be Jeremy Lavallee (Royal Mayfair GC) & Dallas Cantera (Cardiff G&CC) vs. Murray McCourt (The Ranch G&CC) & Shaun Piercey (The Ranch G&CC). ADAMS WINS FOR THE SECOND TIME
Corbin Adams (Jagare Ridge GC) made it two wins in a row. After a double bogie on the first hole, Corbin decided to go 9-under on the next 17 to finish at 7-under 65. Gage Murphy (Cardiff G&CC) also played well shooting a 4-under 68 to finish second at the Golf Supply House Professional Series Event hosted by Edmonton Garrison Memorial G&CC. Jamie Gerlitz (Picture Butte GC) with partner Tanya Bezooyen shot a 9-under 62 to capture the EFW Radiology Pro-Lady South, hosted by Glencoe G&CC. EFW Radiology Pro-Lady South Hosted by Glencoe G&CC
The Pro-Lady consists of one Club Professional paired up with a Female Amateur in a net best ball format, with the top professional scores winning money. This year’s Pro-Lady South event, sponsored by EFW Radiology, will be hosted by Glencoe G&CC in Calgary on Monday, July 24th. A full field of 50 teams will compete all afternoon with hopes of winning the trophy and claiming the second Pro-Lady event of the season. The tournament begins with a 1pm shotgun start. PGA on Wheels is a Success at Jumpstart Games
The PGA on Wheels headed to the Calgary Soccer Centre for the third year in a row for the Jumpstart Games where over 600 kids took part in various golf activities throughout the day. Randy Robb (Edge Golf School) managed to shoot a 6-under 66 but needed four extra holes to win the Players' Tour event hosted by Olds GC.
