PGA of Alberta and Play Golf Alberta Expand Investment in the Growth of the Game

28 April, 2026

CALGARY — Aspiring junior golfers and emerging golf professionals in Alberta will benefit from expanded development opportunities both on and off the course, as the PGA of Alberta and Play Golf Alberta announce an enhanced partnership ahead of the 2026 golf season.

Building on their existing relationship, Play Golf Alberta has increased its investment in the growth of the game across the province. The renewed two-year agreement will elevate key programs that support both high-performance junior athletes and the next generation of golf professionals.

As part of the expanded partnership, the prestigious Play Golf Alberta Junior Masters Tournament will be extended to a three-round competition in 2026 and 2027. The added round will enhance the competitive experience for Alberta’s top junior players while increasing opportunities to earn World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) points.

“We have heard from our members that increasing the number of rounds at the Junior Masters is important to providing a stronger competitive experience for Alberta’s top junior golfers,” said Robert Rousselle, Chief Executive Officer of the PGA of Alberta. “With Play Golf Alberta’s increased support, we are proud to deliver that enhanced experience. Their commitment to creating high-quality and accessible opportunities for junior golfers is making a meaningful impact on the development of the game in our province.”

The Play Golf Alberta Junior Masters, a long-standing 36-hole invitational event conducted by the PGA of Alberta for more than 35 years, features the province’s top 40 boys and top 20 girls. The move to 54 holes marks a significant evolution in the tournament’s history.

In addition to junior competition, Play Golf Alberta also expanded its support of professional development pathways. The organization will sponsor the PGA of Alberta Assistants’ Championship and introduce a $5,000 scholarship for a professional under the age of 25 to attend the PGA of America Buying & Education Summit in Orlando, Florida.

“Whether it’s supporting junior golfers who aspire to play professionally or creating meaningful career development opportunities for those entering the industry, Play Golf Alberta is committed to investing in the next generation,” said Jeff Sveen. “We want to give back in the same way that others have supported the growth of the game and its professionals over the years.”

This enhanced partnership reinforces a shared commitment to strengthening Alberta’s golf community by providing competitive opportunities, mentorship, and career pathways for players and professionals alike.

Play Golf Alberta will continue to be recognized as a premier partner within the PGA of Alberta’s official sponsor program throughout the term of the agreement.
