11 June, 2021
With the official announcement of Stage 2 of Alberta’s Open for Summer Plan, we are excited to confirm that the tournament season will officially begin next week on June 14th at Sundre GC for the GSH Series (click here for draw). We have a massive field of 76 players for the event which shows how excited our members are to get out and compete against their peers.
Please also note that the Team Match Play Opening Events at Lakeside GC (June 15th) and Sturgeon Valley G&CC (June 17th) will be taking place as well. Click either the Lakeside GC or Sturgeon Valley G&CC links above to view the tee times.
Staff/Contact Update - Please send any questions pertaining to tournaments to Aaron McKay moving forward ([email protected]). Aaron will be the main point of contact for the tournament program. Trevor Rioux will be shifting over to our Events role (Buying Show, Awards, Golf Shows, etc.).
HOSTING OPPORTUNITY AVAILABLE - With Belvedere G&CC being unable to host this season, the Association is now looking for another venue in the Edmonton area to host a 1-day GSH Series & Seniors’ Division events (hosted consecutively). We are looking for a venue that is able to host this event in August.
If interested in hosting this season, please contact [email protected] for more information. The office will look to finalize and announce a new venue (if any club is interested) as soon as possible.
Please remember that each Professional at a hosting venue will receive 5 Top 100 points!
Important Tournament Updates
Please be advised of the below important tournament procedures moving forward. Our tournament rules and regulations will continue to adapt after we move into Stage 3 of Alberta’s Open for Summer Plan.
Arrival Time - Players will only be able to access the practise facilities at the course 30-minutes prior to their tee time. Any player arriving before then will be prohibited from using the practise facilities to warm-up. This is MANDATORY for all players.
Caddies/Spectators – No caddies/spectators will be permitted at PGA of Alberta tournaments. As mentioned above, certain rules will be reviewed as we move into Stage 3 of the Open for Summer Plan.
Carts – Based on the latest NAGA Alberta update, it is their understanding that carts are permitted to be shared by two golfers not from the same household. This rule will be in effect for PGA of Alberta tournaments starting on June 14th but the Association will abide by the host venues policy pertaining to this rule.
Bunkers – The bunker rule will be reflected on the local rule sheet and abide by the host venues policy pertaining to this rule.
Flagsticks – The flagstick will remain in the hole. DO NOT REMOVE THE FLAG. You will be able to retrieve your ball using the Pin Caddy tool (or similar). Players will be allowed to spin the Pin Caddy device around before they putt if they feel the pole will affect their shot. If there is any update to this rule, we will inform the membership immediately.
Mobile Scoring – We will still be utilizing online scoring this season through the Golf Genius software. CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE APP AND FOR INFORMATION ON THE ONLINE SCORING PROCESS.
Meals – 6 people per table is now permitted at restaurants, both indoors and outdoors. This rule will be in effect for PGA of Alberta tournaments. The Team Match Play Events hosted at Lakeside GC and Sturgeon Valley G&CC will have a meal included for players after their round. Players are expected to leave the facility immediately after they finish their meal and not linger to prevent group gatherings and to respect the health of safety of everyone at the facility.
Physical Distancing - Please ensure you are giving a minimum of 6 feet or more of space between yourself and all other players, staff, etc. at ALL times during the tournament.
If you are experiencing any symptoms of COVID-19 before the tournament, please contact the office to WITHDRAW from the tournament to protect the health and safety of others.
