Brodie Shields-Tyler Wins PGA of Alberta Players Tour 1-Day Event at Magrath Golf Course
06 May, 2026
MAGRATH, Alta.—Brodie Shields-Tyler was crowned the first winner of the 2026 PGA of Alberta tournament series.
The Country Hills Golf Club professional outlasted a field of 49 of Alberta’s top pros – and one extra playoff hole — while navigating the 18-hole layout at Magrath Golf Course, which stretches just over 6,632 yards.
Shields-Tyler finished tied at 2-under-par 70 alongside Chris Horton of Golf Channel Academy at Cottonwood Golf and Country Club. The two headed to a playoff to determine the winner, where Shields-Tyler secured the title with a par on the first extra hole of the picturesque southern layout.
“The course was in great shape. I’m not used to greens being this fast this early in the season. I had a couple of three-putts but also a couple of long irons into par-5s that got me two eagles. Then I held it together with a couple of par saves on the back nine before a clutch birdie on 18 with a good drive and wedge shot in,” said Shields-Tyler. “In the playoff (Chris) got unlucky by the trees, and I two-putted for par to take it. The conditions were great. You could really let the driver loose, so it was a lot of fun.”
Shields-Tyler’s round featured two eagles, three birdies, three bogeys and one double bogey.
After opening with a double bogey of his own, Horton rebounded with five birdies over the next 12 holes. He added one more bogey on the par-3 14th before parring his way into the clubhouse to post a 2-under 70.
Three additional players finished under par on the day and tied for third spot. Michael Harrison of Coal Creek Golf Resort, Craig Gibson of Sirocco Golf Club and Eric Locke of Priddis Greens Golf and Country Club each carded rounds of 1-under 71.
Next up on the PGA of Alberta calendar is the Seniors Division at Highwood Golf in High River, Alta., May 11.
