PGA OF ALBERTA – 2015 PLAYING ABILITY TEST

The first round of the 2015 Playing Ability Test was hosted under blue skies at Alberta Springs GC. Twenty three males and females from Alberta and British Columbia are vying to the challenge of becoming members with the PGA of Canada. For round one results, click here.

THE CHAMPIONS ARE CROWNED

Patrick Murphy (Glencoe G&CC) went “one south” with a two day total of 140 to capture his first PGA of Alberta Junior Masters title at Wolf Creek GR. Kenna Hughes (Willow Park G&CC) shot a 73 today to secure 1st place overall in the girls division. Click here for all the results.

StayPrime - PGA of Alberta Invitational

The StayPrime - PGA of Alberta Invitational will take place on June 1st at Innisfail GC in an effort to kick off the 2015 tournament season and to help generate excitement around the PGA of Alberta through province-wide media exposure. Twenty-one teams consisting of one PGA of Alberta Professional, two amateurs and a media representative will compete in an 18-Hole Two Net Stableford Competition. Shotgun start at 1:30pm. Professional Series heads North to Coloniale GC

The draw is posted for event #4 of the Golf Supply House Professional Series circuit, this time being hosted at the Coloniale GC on Tuesday, June 2nd. Field is confirmed at 40 players with the purse set at $5,600. Tee times begin at 8:30am. Click here to see the current field and draw.

THE 25th ANNUAL JUNIOR MASTERS IS UP FOR GRABS

Logan Carver (Calgary G&CC) and Michael Lavorato (Canyon Meadows G&CC) lead the boys division with scores of 70 on the Links course at Wolf Creek GR. In the lead for the girls is Sharmaine Rapisura (Inglewood G&CC) who shot a three - over 74. Click here for the results and day 2 tee times.

LOCKE NEEDED LOW ROUND TO WIN

Eric Locke (Wolf Creek GR) tied the low round of the day on his way to victory at the Players' Tour Event hosted by River Spirit. Locke had a two day total of 6-under 138 to win by 3 shots over Darryl James (National Golf Academy @ Shaganappi). Matt Freeman (Canyon Meadows G&CC) was the other low round of the day with a 4-under 68. Click here for all the results.

KURELUK POSTS LOW SCORE ON DAY 1

Jamie Kureluk (GolfTEC Calgary) posted a 5-under 67 to lead the Players Tour Event hosted by River Spirit GC after day 1. Eric Locke (Wolf Creek GR), Darryl James (National Golf Academy @ Shaganappi) and Garett Jenkinson (Golf Performance Canada at Inglewood) all carded 2-under 70’s on day 1 and sit tied for second. Sean Thompson (Calgary G&CC) and Scott Allred (Elbow Springs GC) also played well but sit 4 behind Kureluk heading into day 2. Click here for all day 1 results and day 2 draw.

GERLITZ WINS AGAIN

Jamie Gerlitz (Picture Butte GC) wins for the second time this season. Jamie shot a 1-under par 70 to win the Golf Supply House Professional Series Event hosted by Paradise Canyon Golf Resort. Local pro Justin Stoski (Paradise Canyon GR) finished a close second with an even par 71. Corry Webster (Evergreen GC) also continued his hot play, finishing third with a 74. Junior Masters at Wolf Creek GR

The PGA of Alberta Junior Masters is a 36-Hole invitational Junior Golf Tournament organized each year by the Professional Golfers' Association of Alberta. The Junior Masters this year will provide the top 40 boys and top 19 girls in the province with a highly competitive golf experience at the Wolf Creek GR. River Spirit GC: First Players’ Tour Event of 2015

The draw is now posted for the first PGA of Alberta Players' Tour event, founded by Callaway Golf and sponsored by Flightscope and Jancor Agencies. This two day tournament will feature 48 of the Association’s most competitive players, held on two consecutive days. The event is being hosted at River Spirit GC on May 26th & 27th. WARD WINS IN PLAYOFF

Greg McGarry (Glendale G&CC) and Gary Ward battled in a 3 hole playoff to decide the 2nd Golf Supply House Professional Series Event of the season hosted by Cardiff G&CC. Ward claimed victory on the third playoff hole. McGarry and Ward posted 1-under 71’s. Aaron Cook (Edmonton CC) also played well finishing third with a 72. Click here for all the results.

Team Match Play Championship

The third annual PGA of Alberta Team Match Play Championship presented by Adams Golf begins tomorrow with 62 teams from the north and south battling against each other to ultimately answer the question of who the best team in Alberta is. Last year’s Champions of Kevin Chow & Jacques Plouffe from Blackhawk GC will pair up again and look to defend their title against a talented field. The event is being hosted at the Wolf Creek GR on Wednesday with matches continuing all season long to determine the champion. Round one will begin with a shotgun start at 10:00am & round two starts at 3:00pm. The draw for round one and two will be done onsite at random. Click here for more information.

Gerlitz Wins Opener

Jamie Gerlitz (Picture Butte GC) wins the first Golf Supply House Professional Series Event with a blistering 4-under par 68. Not far behind with a 3-under par 69 was Corry Webster (Evergreen GC). Also with a great start to the season finishing tied for 3rd was Justin Stoski (Paradise Canyon GR) and Scott Borsa (Red Deer G&CC).

The PGA on Wheels Program Needs Your Support

The first PGA on Wheels event of 2015 will be taking place at the RiverBend GC tomorrow, Saturday, May 9th from 9:00am – 1:00pm. We are still looking for PGA of Alberta Members to volunteer and help with the various golf activities. If you are able to help please contact the office. The Team Match Play Championship is just weeks away and still 3 spots remain open for the South Bracket. If you are interested in playing on May 20 at Wolf Creek Golf Resort, please sign your team up today.
