D'Arcy Ranch Alberta's own quiet frontier
From horse-play to course-play — that’s the history of D’Arcy Ranch Golf Club. D’Arcy Ranch was once the site of a racetrack and quarter-horse operation, and the late Jerry D’Arcy — the founder of the course — is a past president of the Calgary Stampede. “It’s 15 minutes south of Calgary now, but you pull in, and you don’t hear cars buzzing around. You really don’t hear anything,” said longtime Head Professional Tim Watt. “You have the mountains in the backdrop. It’s quiet. It’s scenic. You have the deer running around and the coyotes running around. Click here to read the full story by Wes Gilbertson, Calgary Sun.

Canyon Meadows Golf and Country Club Head Professional, Josh Gardner was teaching a lesson Saturday afternoon when he heard a minivan coming down a hill behind him. “I heard a bang and then I saw it go airborne, through the air, right into the middle of the pond,” he said. Gardner said he swam out about 20 metres to the van to save the man’s life. Click here to read the full story.
Golf Tip: Finding a halfway target makes it easier to sink a long putt
“A lot of golfers will approach a putt thinking that their target is so many inches or feet outside of the hole,” said Chow. “Instead, I like to find a point about halfway between you and the hole — the apex or the highest point the ball will travel before it starts to break — and aim for that spot.” Click here to read the full tip from Golf Professional Kevin Chow (Blackhawk GC).
