Pro-Pro Best Ball Tournament Heads to Lakeside GC

The draw is now posted for the Pro-Pro Best Ball event being held at the Lakeside GC and being sponsored by G&G Golf Company. Forty six teams of professional golfers will duke it out on the course to determine the top team of 2014. Shotgun start will get underway at 10:00am on August 27. Senior Championship hosted at Willow Park G&CC

The draw is posted for the Senior Championship sponsored by Golf Vacations Ireland. This year’s Championship will be held at Willow Park G&CC on Wednesday, September 3rd and Thursday, September 4th. Defending Champion Scott Allred (Elbow Springs GC) will be looking to defend his title against thirty other PGA of Alberta professionals. Calgary Golf Professional, Darryl James, qualifies for Stampede City Champions Tour stop

For a half hour or so, Calgary's Darryl James appeared to be a nervous wreck, pacing here and there and trying to practice patience as scores slowly rolled in at Tuesday's last-chance qualifier for the 2014 Shaw Charity Classic. Finally, confirmation ... His spin of 2-under 68 was good enough to earn one of five spots in the field for the Champions Tour stop this week at Canyon Meadows Golf & Country Club. Garett Jenkinson (Golf Performance Canada at Inglewood) and Jamie Kureluk (GolfTEC Calgary) shot 64 to win by 1 shot over last year winners Dale Tomlinson (Carstairs GC) and Phil McCluskey (Akokiniskway GC). Keith Whitecotton (Cardiff GC) with partner Dallas Cantera (Cardiff GC) and Craig Gibson (Brooks GC) with partner Matthew Mah (Mill Woods GC) finished in a tie for third. For the 4th year in a row we crowned a new champion at the DEXIM GOLFWEAR PGA of Alberta Ladies Championship held at the Silver Springs G&CC. Alex Steffens (Inglewood G&CC) won by 1 shot over runner-up Rhonda Carter (Glencoe G&CC). Marsha Rogers (The Derrick Golf &Winter Club) and Shelley Charlton (Brooks GC) finished tied for 3rd. Maggert, Pavin added to Shaw Charity Classic, five make it to qualifier

A solid field of 21 battled at The Hamptons GC on a soggy Thursday in the pre-qualifying tournament, vying for the right to play in Tuesday’s qualifier at Canyon Meadows. Gord Courage, who has long played at the northwest Calgary track, used that home-course knowledge to his advantage, finishing third with a two-over 74 to book his spot in the qualifier. And Calgary’s Darryl James of the National Golf Academy at the Golf Dome — the 2007 and 2008 PGA of Alberta champion and four-time former Alberta Amateur champ — also made the cut, tying for the final spot with a 76. Belbin captures his first PGA of Alberta Championship

Mike Belbin (Royal Mayfair GC) shot an impressive two day total of 5-under 137 to win the 2014 PGA of Alberta Club Car – Titleist FootJoy Championship today at The Ranch GC. PGA of Alberta Veteran takes Day One Lead

Mike Belbin (Royal Mayfair GC) emerges as the leader after round one at the PGA of Alberta Championship sponsored by Club Car, Titleist FootJoy. Belbin shot a steady 34-33 for a final score of 4-under 67. Not without challengers though, right behind Belbin is Timothy Cameron (Sirocco GC) and Kent Fukushima who both shot 3-under 68’s. Belbin, Cameron, & Fukushima will be teeing off in the final group together at 1:10pm tomorrow. Mark Corrigan (Pinebrook G&CC), Scott Westman (The Ranch G&CC), and Taylor Irvin (Valley Ridge GC) all are tied for third at 2-under. Round two tee times gets under way at 7:10am tomorrow morning. Draw posted for Club Car – Titleist FootJoy PGA of Alberta Championship

The draw is now posted for the 32nd annual PGA of Alberta Championship sponsored by Club Car - Titleist FootJoy. This year’s Championship takes place at The Ranch G&CC on Tuesday, August 19 & Wednesday, August 20, with tee times beginning at 7:10am both days. 113 of Alberta’s top golfers will all be competing to take home a piece of the $37,800 purse. Vaughan Brothers Share Victories at Pro-Senior Event

The Vaughan boys made their family proud by each earning trophies at the Pro-Senior event today, sponsored by Golf Trends Inc. and Greg Norman. Hosted by Sturgeon Valley G&CC, Ryan Vaughan and his partner George Taylor of the Cold Lake G&WC won the net team competition through retrogression, with a score of 9-under 63. Jason Vaughan (Fort McMurray GC), older brother to Ryan, won the Professional side of the event shooting a 2-under 70, and beating out Kevin Chow (Blackhawk GC) and Sturgeon Valley's own Jacob Cartier, in a three way playoff. Jason scored a birdie on the first playoff hole to claim the title and ensure everyone would beat the traffic heading home. To see full event results, please click here.

Kurtis Foote (Earl Grey GC) is getting hot at the right time leading into the PGA of Alberta Championship. Kurtis won the Golf Supply House Event at Henderson Lake GC with a 2-under 68. Sean Thompson (Calgary G&CC) eagled the par 4 first hole on his way to a 1-under 69 to finish a close second. Novice golfer makes steady progress under Martens guidance.

Two months ago Kristen Monasterski had never heard of the word ‘par’ let alone ever having hit a golf ball before. Yet Monasterski, 23, a complete, raw golf rookie who is working with Windermere Teaching Professional Cam Martens in a three-part series with ‘the Journal,’ has not only played nine holes of golf she recently shot a 58 at Leduc playing with her friends. “I thought it was awesome that she had enough confidence to go out on a golf course.
