Canyon Meadows G&CC ready for golf's legends and the Shaw Classic
“It’s funny because this is Year 4 and every year has been a bit of a different buildup as far as excitement goes,” said Matt Freeman, the Head Pro at the club which is once again hosting the Shaw Charity Classic tournament. “This year I would say there’s a little more hype based on the field and the new players coming. The last-gasp qualifier for the Classic goes on Tuesday, August 30th at The Hamptons Golf Club, with 28 golfers teeing off in hopes of snaring one of six entries. Calgary Golf Professional, Darryl James, battling recent back injury in bid for Shaw spot
Darryl James is shooting to qualify for the Shaw Charity Classic. James has already teed it up twice against the PGA Tour Champions stars and is hoping to experience it all over again as the senior birdie-machines return to Canyon Meadows, but the 55-year-old has been bothered by a lower-back injury since being rear-ended in a traffic accident late last week. An instructor at National Golf Academy at Shaganappi, James was among the success stories at the qualifier in 2014 and received an exemption last summer. Unfortunately Mother Nature didn't cooperate at the Calgary G&CC for day 2 of the Club Pro Championship sponsored by PING. The final round was cancelled due to the unplayable course conditions from the amount of standing water which had accumulated. Blair Oko (Blair Oko Golf Academy) claimed his first Club Pro title with his round one score of 1-over par 71. A total of 7 players tied for second place with a score of 72.
