Cash Prize Increase With the addition of TaylorMade Golf Canada as a new presenting sponsor, the PGA of Alberta will now be offering 20 cash prizes at the end of this program year valuing $8,200! 5 Advance from Pre-Q at Valley Ridge GC to Event-Qualifier for Shaw Charity Classic
Congratulations to the five competitors who shot 70 or better today at Valley Ridge GC for the Pre-Qualifer to claim the 5 spots advancing to the Event Qualifier, next Tuesday, August 2nd at Elbow Springs GC. It was a scorching day on the course and we saw some excellent scores on the Leaderboard. We also had an exciting 4-man playoff for the last 2 advancing spots who all carded 2-under par 70’s today and battled on Valley Ridge #1 in the playoff.
Dennis Hendershott rose above the rest of the field today and carded a blistering 8-under par 64 today to claim the 1st spot advancing. Darryl James & Jim Karr both carded stellar 4-under par 68’s today to claim the 2nd and 3rd respective advancing spots. Monte Scheinblum & Kent Fukushima both carded 2-under par 70’s and prevailed over their competitors in the playoff to claim the remaining two advancing spots to the Event-Qualifier.
All five players have now qualified for the main Event Qualifier at Elbow Springs GC on Tuesday, August 2nd. The Shaw Charity Classic will be taking place at Canyon Meadows G&CC from August 4th - 7th.
G.S.H. #5 - Leduc GC- All Set For next Tuesday & Wednesday
The fifth Golf Supply House Series event of the season and second 2-Day Series is all set for Leduc GC on: Tuesday & Wednesday, August 2nd & 3rd. Tee Times start at 2:30 PM and we have 40 of our Professionals who will compete at our fifth G.S.H event of the season. Grant Numrich (Red Deer G&CC), Keith Whitecotton (The Quarry), Mitch Fox (Speargrass GC) & Dillon Batsel (Desert Blume GC) were our first, second, third & fourth respective Professionals in the Winners’ Circle this season, whom from next week’s field will add their name to the list?
The Leduc Golf Club is a semi-private facility that welcomes the public to enjoy both the golf course and our excellent dining room and Thunderdome. Leduc Golf Club began as a nine hole course in 1961. Over the years it has undergone a number of changes and has evolved into a challenging eighteen hole test of your golfing prowess. The course is a Par 71 and boasts more than 6,600 yards of fairways. In addition, the layout provides an easy walking course with plenty of eye-pleasing scenery.
Only Four Days Left to Apply for $1,000 Junior Scholarship
The mission of the PGA of Alberta is to provide junior golfers from around the province the opportunity to be recognized for their outstanding achievements, while promoting and providing access to continued education. This program has presented over 60 scholarships since 1998.
Scholarships Available
The PGA of Alberta is proud to increase the total number of scholarships available this year. In total, the Association will award 5 Junior Scholarships of $1,000 each to deserving candidates in 2022! See scholarship breakdown below.
3 scholarships will be awarded to children of PGA of Alberta Members who meet the scholarship criteria (no golf experience needed). Applicants are able to win this scholarship twice.
2 scholarships will be awarded to Alberta Junior boys and girls who meet the scholarship criteria (golf experience required). Applicants can win this scholarship once.
Deadline to Apply
Deadline to apply for a scholarship this year is Sunday, July 31st (end of day). Online application forms and accompanying information must be sent to the PGA of Alberta office no later than this date.
Cox Captures First PING Club Professional Championship at River Bend G&RA
Players were treated to a beautiful day for R2 at the PING Canada Club Pro Championship hosted at the tranquil River Bend G&RA in Red Deer. The course continued to be in mint shape for all our competitors and the weather was excellent throughout the day for the entire field.
It was an incredibly exciting day as the Leaderboard tightened up throughout the day for the back end of the draw with the top of Leaderboard changing hands repeatedly.
Our 2022 Club Professional Champion, playing in his first Club Professional Championship is: Stefan Cox (Calgary G&CC). Stefan battled all day and came from behind to eventually prevail with an extremely clutch Eagle on the 36th hole of the Championship to pull ahead of the rest of the pack. Stefan shot 2-under par 34’s on each 9 today to card a 4-under par 68 to take the Championship by 1-stroke and finished with a Championship two-day total of: 139. Stefan had 3 Birdies and 2 Eagles on the card today with the first on #8 and the 2nd clutch Eagle coming on the last hole of the Championship.
In a two-way tie for Second place was: Scott Stiles(Earl Grey GC) and Darryl James(National Golf Academy at Shaganappi) who both put together two great rounds for the Championship to finish with a Championship two-day total of: 140. Scott carded 67 today with a scorching 31 on the front-9 and carded a 36 on the back-9. Darryl carded 73 today shooting 38 on the front-9 and carding 35 on the back-9.
Rounding out our Top-5 for the Championship, in a three-way tie for Fifth place, all with two-day Championship totals of: 141 was: Adam Bruce (GOLFTEC Sherwood Park), Jamie Kureluk (GOLFTEC Calgary Blackfoot) & Josh Fleming (365 GOLF).
In sole possession of Seventh place was: Jeremy Maher (Modern Golf) who finished with a two-day Championship total of: 142. Rounding out our Top-10 today, in a three-way tie for Eighth place, was: Kasey Timms (Leduc GC), Kevin Black (Redwood Meadows G&CC) & Samuel Kirkness (Inglewood G&CC) who all finished with two-day Championship totals of: 143.

Darryl James Leading the Pack at PING Club Professional Championship
It was a beautiful day for Round 1 of the annual PING Club Pro Championship hosted this year at the serene River Bend G&RA in Red Deer. Conditions on the course were excellent for all our competitors today and we saw some great scores on the Leaderboard which has set us up with an exciting R2 tomorrow. Last year’s defending Champion - Todd Halpen (Golfuture YYC) will look to keep the trophy for a second year running while our other 54 competitors will look to take it off his hands.
In First place, after battling in the Playoff at last year’s Championship, coming out firing for R1 was: Darryl James (National Golf Academy at Shaganappi) who carded an excellent 5-under par 67 today with a 34 on the front-9 and 33 on the back-9. Darryl had 7 Birdies on the card today along with only 2 blemishes to show and is holding a 2-stroke lead over his nearest competitors.
In a 3-way tie for 2nd is: Josh Fleming (Golf 365) & Kasey Timms (Leduc GC) and Sam Kirkness (Inglewood G&CC) who all shot great 3-under par 69’s today. Kasey carded a 1-under 35 on the front-9 and followed it up with 2-under par 34 on the back-9 with 5 Birdies on the card. Josh also carded a 1-under par 35 on the front-9 and followed it with a 2-under 34 on the back-9 with 6 Birdies on the card today. Sam carded 2-under par 34 on the front-9 and 1-under par 35 on the back-9 with 5 Birdies on the card.
Rounding out our Top-5 today, in a 2-way tie for 4th is: Jeremy Maher (Modern Golf) who carded a respectable 2-under par 70 with 1 Eagle and 3 Birdies today. Jamie Kureluk also carded 2-under par 70 today with 3 Birdies on the card.
Round 2 will resume tomorrow morning (July 26th) at 9:00 AM. Final group of: James, Fleming and Timms tee it up at 11:33 AM sharp tomorrow!

Two Weeks Away from the Fourth PAT of the Season
We are just over two weeks away from the fourth Play Ability Test of the season hosted at Mill Woods GC in Edmonton on Wednesday, August 10th. Take note of the PAT schedule by clicking ’View Schedule’ below. There are two PAT’s left this season.
Please pass this information on to anyone interested in becoming a member of the PGA of Canada at your facility. For more information on the steps to become a member, please refer to the PGA of Canada Membership Roadmap.
About the PAT… The PAT is standardized testing all Applicants must pass in order to be eligible to apply for membership. All prospective Applicants are required to register with the PGA of Canada prior to registering for a PAT in 2022. Once an application has been accepted, the PGA of Canada will notify the PGA of Alberta office that there is a new Applicant who will be attempting a PAT. The PAT’s are conducted by the Zones.
Prospective members must meet the following entrance requirements:
Be 18 years of age or older
Have a high school diploma or higher
Currently working in the golf industry to be verified by your employer, and work a minimum of400 paid hoursper year by December 1st
Two reference letters, one from your employer and one from a PGA of Canada Class "A" Member
Complete a police check with Sterling BackCheck Online
Pass a sanctioned Playing Ability Test

No maximum number of attempts per year
All PAT’s are open to all Applicants

PAT Process... Step 1 - Register online at pgaofcanada.com - The cost is $325 plus tax, which includes your first PAT attempt and is valid for one year from the date of the registration. After a year, you must re-register as an Applicant to register for and attempt a PAT.
Step 2 - Register online at pgaofcanada.com for all PAT’s - ($150 plus tax per each additional attempt)
If an Applicant is unsuccessful in each of their PAT attempts over the course of a season, those Applicants may try again the following season. Successful Applicants will pay membership dues for the season at that time.

PING Club Professional Championship - Draw now Available - July 25 & 26 at River Bend G&RA
The Draw is now available for Round 1 of the PING Club Pro Championship, hosted at the beautiful River Bend G&RA in Red Deer on next Monday and Tuesday, July 25 & 26. Thank you to our long-time Champion Partner PING Canada for the continuous support of the Championship.
With 56 Professionals in the field, the battle on the course next week is sure to be heated to determine who will be crowned this year’s Club Pro Champion. Todd Halpen (Golfuture YYC) is our defending Champion after winning on the second hole of an exciting Playoff at The Hamptons GC last year. Click here for footage of the 2nd Playoff Hole.
Winner of the Championship will receive 40 Order of Merit points and will automatically be granted a spot on the Alberta Head Pro Team that will go on to represent the zone at the National Championship in December at The Verrado Golf Club in Buckeye Arizona.
Tee Times will begin at 12:01 PM on Monday, July 25th with a meal following the round. Round 2 will begin at 9:03 AM on Tuesday, July 30th.

Carnmoney’s West & Tovee Capture 2022 Nike Golf Pro-Junior
Today saw the 2022 Nike Golf Pro-Junior Title presented by Srixon, Cleveland Golf, and AHEAD Canada. We had a stacked field of 60 teams competing at the beautiful and immaculately conditioned Bearspaw GC in Northwest Calgary, all our players had a wonderful day and we saw some great scores on the Leaderboard.
After an absolutely perfect day on the golf course, the Team of: Jonathan West and Kyra Tovee from Carnmoney GC rose above the rest of the field to win the 2022 Nike Golf Pro-Junior Title presented by Srixon, Cleveland Golf, and AHEAD Canada. Jonathan and Kyra played lights-out golf today to amass an excellent 47 Stableford Points and win by 1 point over their nearest competitors.
Falling just one point back of our Champions in Second Place was the Team from: Country Hills GC comprised of: Josh Berze & Jaiden Koonar with a total of 46 points. In Third Place was the Team from: Speargrass GC comprised of: Mitchell Fox & Trey Smith who finished with 45 Stableford Points. In Fourth Place was the Team from: Pinebrook G&CC (Mac Keats & Aneesh Kaura) finishing with 44 Stableford Points. Rounding out our Top-5, in Fifth Place was another Team from: Carnmoney GC comprised of: Bryce Halverson & Tobias Buffam who finished with 43 Stableford Points.

Westman Defends Home Turf at the Seniors’ Division Event
The first PGA of Alberta Seniors’ Division event of the season did not disappoint with players having excellent playing conditions at The Ranch G&CC.
After a hard-fought battle on the course, Scott Westman made The Ranch G&CC proud after defending home turf and winning the event with a score of 3-over 74. Westman played steady golf throughout the round shooting 37-37 on the front and back nines to seal the victory. This is Westman’s first official win at a PGA of Alberta event!
Keeping Westman on his toes and finishing tied for second was Kevin Day (Billy D’s GC) and Gary Christenson (Sturgeon Valley G&CC). Both players ended up with a 77 to fall three strokes back of Westman. Rounding out the top four with a score of 79 was Mark Beckwith (Sturgeon Valley G&CC).

Bruce & Fleming Conquer the Field at Pro-Pro Scramble at Turner Valley GC
Today saw the Pro-Pro Scramble presented by: E-Z-GO hosted at the beautiful Turner Valley GC. The weather cooperated and gave our competitors a great day for Golf. We had a solid field of 50 teams encompassing 100 total players. We had a very exciting day with the Leaderboard jammed packed at the Top and ended up with a 4-Team Playoff.
Our Winning team today was: Adam Bruce (GOLFTEC Sherwood Park) & Josh Fleming (365 Golf) who prevailed on the fifth playoff hole with a Par over the remaining Team in the playoff (Diduck & Maher of Modern Golf). Adam & Josh carded an absolutely scorching 12-under par 60 with an outstanding 7 birdies on the front-9 for a ridiculous 29 and followed it up with an excellent 5 more birdies for a back-9 total of 31.
Tied for Second Place and battling in the Playoff was the teams of: Jeremy Maher & Jeff Diduck (Modern Golf) Stefan Cox (Calgary G&CC) & Albert Pistorius (Country Hills GC) & Matt Bean & Scott Shouldice (Sundre GC) who all carded excellent rounds of 12-under par 60 as well.
In solo 5th today and rounding out our Top-5 was the team of: Eric Locke (Priddis Greens G&CC) and Matthew Cook (Riverside Golf Academy) who carded an outstanding 11-under par 61 to just miss out on the playoff.

Heffernan Hauls in First Cobra Puma Golf Assistants’ Championship at The Derrick G&WC
Today saw Round 2 of the Assistants’ Championship sponsored by Cobra Puma Golf at the serene Derrick G&WC. The course continued to be in fantastic shape and the summer conditions were outstanding for our competitors.
The Leaderboard was jammed with Players jockeying to sit inside our Top-10 with plenty of great scores today but 1 player rose above the field to take home the 2022 Assistants’ Championship after carding the new Course Record of 65 yesterday and only missing it by 1-stroke today again.
Continuing his incredible play this season was none other than: Mr. Wes Heffernan (Dynamic Motion Golf Performance Centre), fresh off his victory at the 2022 PGA of Canada of Championship. Wes carded an excellent 4-under par 66 today which included: 1 Eagle, 3 Birdies and only 1 bogey blemish. He fired a 2-under 34 on the front-9 and followed it up with 2-under par 36 on the back-9. Wes finished the Championship at 9-under par with an outstanding two-day total of 131.
In sole possession of 2nd is: Eric Locke (Priddis Greens G&CC) who carded an exceptional 5-under par 65 today to match the Course Record that was shot yesterday. Eric had an excellent 6 Birdies on the card today with only 1 bogey blemish to finish the Championship at 5-under par with a two-day total of 135.
In sole possession of 3rd is: Albert Pistorius (Country Hills GC) who carded an excellent 4-under par 66 today with 7 Birdies on the card and 3 bogey blemishes. Albert finished the tournament at 4-under par and finished with a two-day total 136.
Rounding out our Top-5, in a two-way tie for 4th is: Mitchell Fox (Speargrass GC) and Dillion Batsel (Desert Blume GC) who both finished the tournament with a 2-day total of 3-under par. Mitchell fired a scorching 65 today to tie the Course Record set yesterday and today.

Today saw Round 1 of the Assistants’ Championship sponsored by Cobra Puma Golf at the picturesque Derrick G&WC. The course is in mint shape and helped produce some low scores today which made for an exciting day and sets us up for a great R2 tomorrow.
Our Leader after R1, who broke the previous Course Record of 66, is: Wes Heffernan (Dynamic Motion Golf Performance Centre) who came out firing today and carded an outstanding 5-under par 65. Wes carded a 30 on the front-9 and followed it up with a 35 on the back-9. Wes had 1 Eagle, 4 Birdies and only 1 bogey blemish on the card today to go into R2 with a 3-stroke lead over his nearest competitors.

Rounding out our Top-5 today in a 2-way tie for 5th is: Taylor Irvin (Country Hills GC) & Jaxon Lynn (Alberta Springs GR) who all carded great 1-under par 69’s respectively to remain within reach of our Leader & pack with low rounds needed tomorrow.
In a 3-way tie for 7th, after carding solid Even-par 70’s is: Eric Locke (Priddis Greens G&CC), Albert Pistorius (Country Hills GC) & Josh Berze (Country Hills GC).
Rounding out our Top-10 today was: Matthew Cook (Riverside Golf Academy), Scott Smith (Dynamic Motion Golf Performance Centre) & Matt Bean (Sundre GC) who all carded respectable rounds of 1-over par 71.

Play Ability Test Draw - Alberta Springs on July 12th
The draw is now posted for the third Play Ability Test of the season hosted again at Alberta Springs in Red Deer on Tuesday, July 12th. Tee times begin at 10:10am.

Each year the PGA of Alberta recognizes several Members and Industry Representatives for their achievements throughout the season and their career, as well as for their contributions to the Association and the game of golf.
We encourage all Members and Industry Partners to become a part of our Awards Program by nominating an individual or facility that you feel is deserving of an Award. In total, nine Awards are up for nomination this year:
The importance of the Awards Program, on both a Provincial and National scale, is something the Association does not take lightly. In the past 20 years, we have had the honour as an Association of recognizing 31 Provincial winners go on to win at a National level, 10 of which were Murray Tucker Club Professional of the Year recipients!
Please note the following for the 2022 Awards Program:
Coach of the Year Award Eligibility - Nominees must be certified within Golf’s National Coach Certification Program Competition stream (Coach of New Competitors, Coach of Developing Competitors) to be eligible to be a Finalist and win the Award.
Top 100 Points - Every member that submits a nomination form byAugust 3rd will receive 2 Top 100 points for this program year. The maximum points you can receive is 2 total, even if you nominate more than one person.
Nomination(s) – We encourage all PGA of Alberta Professionals and Industry Partners to nominate a deserving individual in each of the Award categories. Self-nominations are not permitted.

Deadline to Nominate- Nominations for all awards will close at the end of day on Monday, August 22nd.
Video Bio Submissions - All members who are nominated for an Award are highly encouraged to submit a short video bio in addition to their application form.
Awards Banquet (Save the Date) - Award winners will be revealed at the Awards Banquet on Wednesday, October 19th at the Calgary BMO Centre (after day two of the Buying Show).
Cobra Puma Golf Assistants’ Championship - Draw now available
The first Championship of the season is fast approaching with the Cobra Puma Golf Assistants’ Championship all set for The Derrick G&WC this Sunday, July 10th & Monday July 11th. 71 Professionals will battle for the 2022 Championship and try to dethrone our Defending Champion - Riley Fleming (Lynx Ridge GC).
Tee Times are set to get underway at 1:00 PM on Sunday for R1 with our last group set for a 4:27 PM start. Our R2 gets underway at 7:00 AM the next morning and will see the prize presentation following our last group getting off the course.
The Derrick Club’s 18-hole championship golf course, redesigned by Jeff Mingay in 2015, has a distinct layout reminiscent of classic course architecture of the 1930s. The course is fun for recreational golfers and offers plenty of challenges for low-handicap players.
Glen and Kelsey DesRoche Take the Title at Broadmoor GC
Today saw the Pro-Lady North sponsored by EFW Radiology & adidas Golf head to the beautiful Broadmoor GC in Sherwood Park. The course was in great shape with some fantastic weather.
This year saw the event continue with the Team Net Stableford scoring format which kept things fun and exciting for the competition. The point allocation in this format is: 5 points for Double Eagle, 4 points for Eagle, 3 points for Birdie, 2 points for Par & 1 point for Bogey.
Our Champions this year are: Hailing from Picture Butte GC: Glen DesRoche & his wife Kelsey DesRoche who fired a superb round today to finish with 47 Stableford team points to win by 1! Glen lead the team with 7 birdies on the day with Kelsey scoring 3 net birdies and a net eagle.
In solo Second place, the team from Highlands GC, Gary Hartford and his partner Glenda Perry. Gary shot the low round of the day with a 66 to finish with a team total of 46 points.
Finishing in Third through retrogression, at 44 points was the team from Sturgeon Valley G&CC, Chris Toth and his partner Karen Morris.
In Fourth, also through retrogression and finishing with 44 points was the team from The Quarry: Keith Whitecotton and his partner Kim Whitecotton.
Rounding out our Top 5 today was the team from: Montgomery Glen GC, Mitch Buffalo and his partner Joan Tomma-Buffalo. They finished with a final team score of 43.

The annual Tournament of Champions sponsored bySunice/Bobby Jonessaw some great weather and a mint conditioned Windermere G&CC giving players an absolutely first class golf experience from start to finish!
Today’s Tournament of Champions Winners are: The team of, Inglewood G&CC, comprised of: Professional, Samuel Kirkness and Club Champion, Gerry MacDonald who carded a scorching team gross round of 7-under 64 to prevail by 2-strokes over their nearest competitors.
In Second Place, through retrogression, was: The team of, Picture Butte GC, comprised of: Professional, Jamie Gerlits and Club Champion, Kris Wasylowich who carded an excellent team round of 5-under 66 with 6 birdies on the day.
In Third Place, also through retrogression, was: The team of, Mickelson National Golf Academy, comprised of: Professional, Randy Robb and Club Champion, Dustin Yeager who carded an excellent bogey free round 66
In Fourth Place, also through retrogression, was: The team of, Sirocco GC, comprised of: Professional, Craig Gibson and Club Champion, Jason Renneberg who also carded a bogey free 66.
In a tie for Fifth Place, also through retrogression, was: The team of, Glendale G&CC, comprised of: Professional, Jeff MacGregor and Club Champion, Ryan Denbraber, Grant Cammidge and Club Champion Braden O’Grady, and Weston Gillett with Club Champion Chad Cargill respectively. These three teams carded a 4-under 67.
