Chris Ward Receives Class "A" Professional of the Year Honour
Congratulations to Chris Ward of Edmonton Petroleum G&CC for receiving the 2021 PGA of Alberta Class "A" Professional of the Year honour! Click HERE to see his reaction to winning the Award. Chris Ward Wins Back-to-Back Top 100 Awards
Congratulations to Chris Ward of the Edmonton Petroleum G&CC on winning his second consecutive Top 100 Award as determined by the rankings in the Top 100 Program presented by Foresight Sports Canada! The Top 100 Program is based on pre-defined measurable criteria designed to recognize members who dedicate their time and demonstrate proven abilities in advancing the Association’s interests for the benefit of all Golf Professionals.
Chris had a terrific year within the Top 100 Program accumulating 83 points total to cruise to a five point victory! Chris is the first member to win this award in back-to-back years (including the years of the former Professional Development Program).
It was an exciting race to the very end with three other members finishing within ten points of Chris to claim one of this year’s cash prizes! Special shout-out to the following facilities for all having multiple Professionals inside the top 10 of the program this year; Edmonton Petroleum G&CC, Valley Ridge GC, and Inglewood G&CC.
Cash Prizes... In addition to the Award winner, the Association is proud to again award 10 cash prizes to the top point earners. Members needed to accumulate 57 points or more to earn a cheque this year. Congratulations to the following cash recipients who will receive their prize shortly:

Alberta Head Professional Team Ready for Lookout Point CC
The Head Professional Championship of Canada presented by Callaway Golf and supported by G&G at Lookout Point CC in Fonthill Ontario is only 11 Days away from seeing Team Alberta hit the links to try and make it a clean sweep for our Zone in Inter-Zone competition this year.
This year saw the battle for the final spots on the roster come down to the very last event that was eligible for amassing the needed Order of Merit points that determine our roster. Congratulations to our Top 3 Head Professionals on the Order of Merit and the Champion of our 2021 Club Professional Championship. Our team consists of: Todd Halpen (Golfuture YYC) (Club Pro Champion), Dallas Cantera (Cardiff G&CC) (Most Order of Merit points for Head Pro’s), Weston Gillett (Lacombe G&CC) (2nd most Order of Merit points for H.P’s) & Kevin Black (Redwood Meadows G&CC) (3rd most Order of Merit points).

Our Head Professional Team will be looking to keep the momentum going after the strong showing by the Alberta Assistants’ Team at the PGA Assistants’ Championship of Canada. Team Alberta took home the inter-zone trophy after two days of excellent playing at The Winston GC in Calgary, finishing at a ridiculous -19 and beating their nearest zone competitors by 8 strokes! The Assistants’ Team consisted of: Dillon Batsel, Riley Fleming, Wes Heffernan & Mitch Fox and they wish their fellow Team Alberta members the best of luck at their forthcoming Championship.

Education Sessions Now Virtual
The PGA of Alberta’s Education Committee is excited to announce the 2021 Buying Show Education Sessions are moving virtual. Sessions will be conducted within a Zoom webinar, which allows for an unlimited number of participants to attend. This year’s aim was to highlight the local knowledge we have within the association, but also learn from what other professionals are doing in the province. Each of the 3 days, there will be an education session covering a different relevant topic related to the golf industry that will help to continue to grow the game.

Dean Ingalls is excited to be sharing some of his knowledge of merchandising within a Golf Shop. This will include different philosophies as well as techniques used recently to achieve great member communication and success within his shop. Further to this he will be discussing some keys to being hired year-round at golf facilities for Assistant and Associate Golf Professionals.

An open discussion on growing the game of golf and promoting your book of business. Todd Halpen, Randy Robb, Luke Workman and Paul Horton will be sharing their experiences as golf instructors to give insight on what has made them successful over many years. Josh Fleming has graciously agreed to mediate the event.

In this presentation Dr. Legg will discuss the importance of adapted programming for persons experiencing disability. David will review practical steps your club and staff can start doing immediately to be more inclusive, welcoming and diverse.
